Which package for DS210+

The compability list says PowerPC and the processor is FREESCALE PowerQUICC III 8533e. But the package will not install. Newest DSM (5.2-5644 update1) and Plex cert. is imported. Does anyone know what to do ?

DS215j + Apple TV 4

Hi
I'm currently running Plex server from my PC. I would like to move my movies to a NAS and I'm thinking about buying the Synology DS215j. I watch movies on my Macbook Pro but I would also like to hook the Plex media server to my TV. I already own an Apple TV 4th generation.

My question is about transcoding, I mainly watch .mkv, .mp4 and .avi. There shouldn't be a need for transcoding to my Macbook and from what I can read the Apple TV also has support for these formats.

Does this setup make any sense?

Basic setup wizard didn't start. Can I run it manually?

I have a brand new DS1515+. I just installed the plex sdk manually on it. When I ran the web client for the first time the basic setup wizard did not run. I just got the home screen. Is there a way to initialize/force the wizard? Or is there a basic setup procedure I can follow? Thanks!

Choppy playback Synology DS415 Play to Xbox One

My first experience with Plex Server running on a Synology DS415 Play streaming content to an Xbox One has not been great (to say the least). First, I had to figure out that there are two version of the Synology Plex Server for Synology: a version for regular users and a higher version for Plex Pass users. In order to support playback on the Xbox One, you apparently need the higher version. To me, this is overly complicated and does not add to a good user experience.

 

Next I found the experience on the Xbox One sub-par (the interface is slow, load times are long and connection errors appear often). Also the playback of HD content on Xbox One is choppy. CPU usage on the Synology jumps to 98%(!)

 

As an alternative, I tried the beta version of Microsoft Media Player for Xbox and noticed that 1080p HD content started fast and played fluently. CPU utilization stays at ~30%.

 

Back in Plex the same content had frequent hiccups (every 10 seconds or so) and lost connections to the server. I figure it is an issue with the transcoding. Is there a way to disable the transcoding on the NAS altogether? The streams play well on my intended devices and I prefer a smooth user experience.

There used to be a sticky on this forum to a community edited spreadsheet of the various disk/rackstation models that would support certain PMS functions (e.g. smooth transcoding of 720 / 1080p content). Can someone point me to it?

permissions, and DS user account "plex" disabled

I've done a little searching and haven't found an exact answer for this question...
It seems that having proper file permissions is pretty important for several things. However, there doesn't seem to be a step in the setup FAQ that specifically walks you through setting permissions. Does this mean that the permissions should be set correctly by default when one goes through the standard setup procedure? Or, should I check all the instances of / references to "permissions" in the FAQ (there are 12) and make sure everything is correct?
Next question:
I just noticed that the "plex" user account that was created when I installed PMS on my synology is deactivated. I did not do this. Is this correct? If the user account is deactivated, then what does it matter what permissions are set for it?

DS213j - The Channel Directory is Unavailable

I have a DS213j and I've installed the Plex Media Server ver 09.12.19.1537 on DSM 5.2-5644. I am unable to change the server settings and neither am I able to detect channels to add to my directory. I keep getting the above error message even after I log out and log in. On the other hand the same Plex Media Server installed on my PC running on Windows 10 have no problem detecting the channels. I would like to have my favorite channels installed on my DS213j which is up 24/7 but not my PC. I read of many Plex users facing the same problems. I'd like Plex developers to look into this nagging problem. Otherwise Plex is a great product.

Memory leak while creating optimized versions?

I have my Plex creating optimized versions of my movies overnight. When I wake up, the conversion has mostly stopped (or is running very slowly), and the RAM utilization on the NAS is quite high (>70%). If I restart Plex server, the RAM utilization goes down to normal levels (~30-40%) and the conversion resumes at a normal pace. Is there a memory leak?

I have a DS214Play.

how to install update

Hi all - when I launch Plex from my Sinology NAS I have the orange band at the top of the page saying there is an update available. However in the package centre on the nAS it says the Plex app is up to date. I have downloaded the Plex update but don't know how to manually apply it to the NAS ??? Also I have just updated my iPad ap and that is now not reaching my Plex server because it says it needs to be updated ???

Am I missing something obvious here?? Thanks guys,

How do you turn off the 'new' transcoding option

I'm guess this is more feedback than discussion.

Now I'm having to resync a whole bunch of media from my DS413 to my iphone, I'm seeing 'new' options in sync (I've not used this functionality from my browser in months) regarding the resolution etc.

What happened to the old options where highest just sent the files? My files are already fine for my device and my NAS can't transcode, this is just needlessly complex.

Hi Folks,

today i owned a new Synology DS716+ with a 4-core intel Celeron CPU instead of my "older" DS214play wich had a lot of performance troubles regarding streaming over the plex media server.
so, i thought, buy a peter NAS with a more powerful CPU and as i wanted to install the Plex Media Server for Intel-based Synology NAS, i got the Message that my Platform is not support.

My Question is, is there a possibility that a x64 based PMS will released...? :)

DS1512 streaming wifi/outside network with MKV files

All of my blu-ray movies/shows are MKV files that are 30GB in size. They playback perfect through my ethernet connected devices. However, any wifi or outside network connections stutter due to transcoding. Anything from a DVD works great on wifi/outside network. Is it possible to have the MKV file along with a lower quality version for streaming? I remember awhile back this was only possible through a plex server running on a computer. If so, what quality is recommended?

Problem with installing PlexMediaServer-09.14.6.1620 on DS716+

Hi,

Trying to manually install the above package renders the "unsupported on this platform" error. Having followed the suggested advice (on this forum) I.e. to edit the spk file (using to add the [arch="x86 cedarview bromolow evansport avoton braswell"] edit to the INFO file, results in a "package corrupt" error.

PMS downloaded using Firefox (not Chrome)
SPK edit using 7-zip
INFO edited using Notepad2 (32bit)

Appreciate some guidance on resolving.

Help installing PlexPy

Hi,

I've been asking around for help with installing PlexPy. I tried to use docker, but I could not get the settings to save properly on a reboot of NAS. I tried to install via PlexPys Linux instructions but on a reboot I can no longer find the /opt/PlexPy directory.

Would like some step by step help.

On DTS 5.1, the center channel is muted / muffed.

Is there a setting to resolve, or is this a bug?

Now Playing not showing activity

I am Running Plex on my Synology NAS, Version 0.9.15.0 of the server and my kids are watching a movie on the TV and this activity is not showing in the "Now Playing" section in Web Client interface.

Any thoughts on how to get the streaming instance to appear in the web client.

DS413, iOS always Waiting for Server

I have 2 iOS devices, one of which is used for syncing. Since Wednesday it no longer syncs. The device was nearly full so I removed some games and old apps, freeing up 6.5 GB. I also changed Plex to have unlimited storage on the device from a 30gb limit.

When I try to sync, I get two alternating messages after it tries to update info - Storage full (its not) or Waiting on Server.

Looking at Resource Manager on my Nas, the New Plex transcoder is using 60-90% CPU utilisation even though when I check in Plex, nothing is being transcoded. If I stop the Plex service, The transcoder is still hammering away!!

What do I need to provide to help get this resolved?
