TL;DR: Plex refuses to live-transcode anything after migration to DS916+, and starting with a clean install causes error messages during setup.
I managed to get Plex migrated from Windows including all media and settings using the Synology-provided Plex package. However, any time a video file needed transcoding, the browser (Chrome) would indicate 'there is a problem playing this item' after 30-60 seconds. The Android app would have similar behavior. This is for various video types, and only when transcoding is needed (or forced). All direct-playable files work fine.
So i thought let's try with a clean install. Same problems.
I've tried PMS installs with:
- Synology-provided PMS package. Problems.
- Plex-provided package for Synology: PMS 1.5.6.3790-4613ce077. Same problems.
- The linuxserver/plex docker container: PMS 1.7.3.3937-70f781325. Same problems.
- Plex-provided Plex-pass package for Synology: PMS 1.7.3.3937-70f781325. Same problems.
I've tried chmod -R 777 for the Library directory.
There are two things that specifically caught my attention:
- during configuration of a clean PMS through the web interface, it comes up with 'A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.' I can wiggle my way around it by refreshing, but it's still suspicious. Then when adding the first library, the 'language' drop down list is not populated, and 'your changes could not be saved' prevents completing the wizard.
- When initiating a transcoded play from the migrated library, files of some size are steadily created in the tmp transcoding directory, suggesting that transcoding runs just fine. However Chrome and Android clients both seem to time out on it.
I've attached the logs for a clean install of the SPK for 1.7.3.3937 taken after the point that it started complaining during configuration.
