I recently upgraded to a Synology DS916+ with 8GB. Video files are MKV and ripped Blu rays and DVD's. As far as possible I do not transcode when streaming. If I use my JRiver player (running on a separate media server (not the NAS) or my Oppo 105 as DLNA renderer/player, the performance is excellent: hardly any initial buffering and super smooth performance (original quality). If I use the Apple TV app or Chromecast (via iPhone), the performance for DVD's is fine, but for Blu Ray is disappointedly slow/bad. In case or "original" streams, it takes forever. In case of transcoder, I also takes forever. What is the problem here? In case of original quality streaming, what is the bottlenecks, as other players do not seem to have a problem. In case of transcoder, the Plex server does not get the job done. Now the NAS (DS 916+ Synology) has 8GB and an Intel processor. I get the impression that the Plex Server is highly inefficient. Any clues?
