Sync and Streaming Issues + Direct/Indirect Confusion

Hello friends of Plex + Synology!

I'm new to Plex – and I still hope it can become my single point of truth for all my tv/media consumption at home. I bought the Plex Lifetime Pass just recently. I record movies & tv shows via VU+ Duo2 receiver – directly on my Synology NAS 415+. I've installed (and updated to) the latest version 1.12.1.4885 (manually on Synology Packet Center). I mainly watch Plex on my Apple TV 4k or on my iPad 2 Air.

Unfortunately, I keep having these issues:

  • SYNC: Often (not always) Movies are not in sync. Example: I watch Plex on my Apple TV 4K, then want to continue on my iPad 2 Air – and the movie starts from the beginning. Or I'm successful in the first place, continue watching on my iPad, but on the next day – when I want to continue on Apple TV, it starts from previous position where I had stopped watching on the Apple TV (instead of my iPad). Any idea why that is the case?
  • STREAMING ISSUES: Often (not always) watching a movie works just fine, another time it's buffering every few seconds, another time it isn't working at all. What is interesting: The same can happen with the same video material (can be 720p or 1080p). Can there be a reliable solution?
  • DIRECT/INDIRECT confusion: I admit I'm confused about this Direct/Indirect thing. When I log on to Plex on my PC via http://192....:32400, I have a direct connection. When I enter https://app.plex.tv/desktop (and in most cases it is Plex itself that forwards be to that URL - can that be avoided?), I have an indirect connection. Any time I open Plex on my iPad, it's indirect, too – is this how it should be?

Thanks so much for your help!

My hardware: Synology NAS 415+, PMS on Apple TV 4K, VU+ Duo2 (VCR), iPad 2 Air
