Correct me if I am wrong, please?

Hi guys,

I know the DS418 does not work with PLEX, may not ever. I am disappointed, but it is what it is. I got it just for Plex, and hope some day it works.

For now, am I understanding correctly that while I need to make sure permissions are correct, I can run Plex on my desktop and just map a drive to the Synology DS drive and have it read the contents from there? Any performance issues with that?

Transcoder in constant use outside of scheduled tasks (previews only as scheduled) on a DS1817+

Having some serious issues with the Plex server on my Synology DS1817+ updated to the newest Plex Pass version (v1.10.1.4561 at the time of writing).
Where the CPU is constantly at 100% load cause of the transcoder part of the Plex package.
I made sure my chapters and video previews are only generated at scheduled tasks so i would expect it to respect that.

Scheduled Tasks is set to start at 8am and end at 2pm and i would expect it to respect that, which it doesn't at all it seems.

unsure why it would use the transcoder when it it doesn't generate or actually transcode something for a client.
a fresh restart of the client fixes it but this shouldn't be an issue and a workaround i need to do at least 2-3 times a day.

would the "upgrade media analysis during maintenance" have anything to do with it?
anything i can do on my side to lower the usage? as i get it to respect the options set or maybe an option that causes this.

im guessing if i have too many files and the media analysis is suppose to run it will continue running after the set time since its so many files. really something i dont want to happen in the end.

PlexMediaServer-1.10. stops playing media

hi there, my synology DS3018xs with the latest PlexMediaServer-1.10.1.4561-9de2951fc-x86_64.spk fails to play movie media. the movie starts and after less that 3o sec. the player/client stops streaming the movie. the problem started with the PlexMediaServer-1.10. update. under PlexMediaServer-1.9. x everything was perfectly fine. any suggestions? thank you!

Looking for PlexMediaServer-0.9.9.10.459-008ea34-arm.spk all over the internet with no luck

Synology based PMS disappearing from server list

I've been having an issue ever since updating to the latest PMS build. I have two servers running. One on a Synology DS412+ and one on my desktop computer running Windows 10. I run two because the NAS isn't powerful enough to do 4K streaming but my computer is. Lately the NAS server keeps disappearing from my authorized devices list and I'll have to manually restart the server to add it back. The problem is, everytime this happens my desktop PMS loses everything in the library. For some reason when the NAS server disappears so does my desktop's PMS connection to the files stored on it. This is incredibly annoying because I look at everything by last date added, so every time the library repopulates everything is the last date added.
I have the NAS mapped to my computer and I can access the files through the explorer and I can also use the web interface and get at the files that way, but my libraries keep disappearing and I can't access anything until I restart my NAS and repopulate the desktop's libraries. I saw one suggestion is to disable "empty trash after each scan" so I did that to keep it from occurring again but can anyone tell me why the Synology based PMS keeps disappearing and why the desktop server things the files are gone? I know the NAS isn't spinning down because I can hear it chugging away and I can access it in other ways.

Fix Incorrect Match Problems with get_iplayer

I seem to have a problem with "Fix Incorrect Match". For some TV Shows the name of the show comes up as "get_iplayer" regardless of what I name the file. (I always follow the correct naming conventions).

If I use "Fix Incorrect Match" - I only get to see results with "player" in the title, even if I put the full title in the search box, or, put the thetvdb show ID.

Any ideas?

DVR Setup on Synology DS918+

I've been unable to get the DVR function to record properly. Usually what happens is that the recording stops before the end of the show.

I've attached a log file excerpt which is an attempt to record a 30 minute show. The recording stopped after 18 minutes. On this particular attempt, the recorded .ts file was also missing audio.

I'm running PMS version 1.10.1.4561 on a Synology DS918+. The DSM version is 6.1.4-15217. The DVR device is an HD HomeRun Connect.

Roku Ultra Plex app will not connect to Synology plex

Brand new Roku Ultra, nearly new NAS. Have updated NAS Plex to the current version. Message on Roku Plex app states "NAS connection unauthorized. Sign in server and check connection." Have singned in and out both apps several times to no avail. Several other devices (IOS, windows, etc) have connected without a problem.

Local Server not found

Hello,
I've upgraded my plex account and since then my local server could not be found any more! It show only plex cloud?
I reinstalled plex server on my nas and the service is running but the the strange thing is, when i go on my local ip :32400/web/index.html the cloud the server is the only one after login.

Can anyone Help`

Plex for Synology - No 'Plex' Folder shown in DSM

Hi, i have re-started using plex on my Synology box. Have gone to add a channel and there isn't a plex folder or share on my Synology NAS (I may have deleted it previously when i wasn't using Plex).
I also get an error "The channel directory is unavailable." when I try to add a channel (home > channels > install channels) via a browser window.
Also, going settings > server gives a "Server settings are unavailable." message.

Is it simple to re-add the folder (if that indeed is the issue) or maybe a fresh install of Plex is in order?

connectivity between ruku ultra plex and synology nas plex

My new Roku ultra plex app will not connect with my updated Synology NAS plex app. I can cast to the Roku but can not connect. Several other devices have connected flawlessly

The message on the 4roku states that the NAS connection is unauthorized.

Does anyone have a solution?

Plex iNotifier

Plex is an amazing piece of software. One issue with Plex Media Server, though, is that it doesn't auto-update the library when there are changes on connected network shares. This can be annoying if you run your PMS on a different machine (e.g. Nvidia Shield, Mac Mini, etc) than where your media library is stored (e.g. NAS), as you either have to trigger an update on PMS manually when adding/moving/renaming content or wait for the library update interval to kick in.

So, I wrote a script to automate that (borrowed heavily from here).

The script works by tying into inotify on the NAS, which is a kernel subsystem that notices changes to the filesystem and reports those changes to applications. The script uses inotify to monitor the media directories on the NAS for changes, then connects to the remote Plex Server's web API to find the appropriate media section to refresh. If it finds a matching section, it uses the web API to send an update command to that section.

Installation

  1. Clone the GitHub repository or download the latest zipfile.
  2. Make sure you have "Python3" installed.
  3. You'll need to install the "pynotify" Python module. The easiest way is to install the Python EasyInstall utility; Shell into your server, and run: wget https://bootstrap.pypa.io/ez_setup.py -O - | python3 then run: easy_install pyinotify
  4. Save the plex-inotify.py script somewhere on your NAS/fileserver, e.g. /usr/local/bin
  5. Edit the plex_server_host variable near the top of your script to match the IP address of your Plex Server. If you have local DNS resolution, you can use a hostname instead.
  6. Edit the path_maps variable to map the local paths of the media shares on your fileserver to their corresponding library names in your Plex Media Server.
  7. You should change the daemonize variable to False for testing purposes until you're sure that everything is working properly.
  8. Try running the script with python3 plex-inotify.py, and if all goes well, it will load up without errors :)

If you set daemonize to True, then the script will fork itself into a background task when you run it. It will stay running even if you log out of the shell.

IMPORTANT: With the security changes in PMS version 1.1.0, if your Plex Media Server is signed in to a plex.tv account, you'll need to set the plex_account_token variable (see "troubleshooting" below) or you can add the IP address of your fileserver to the following advanced preference: Settings > Server > Network > List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth.

Troubleshooting

  • If you see a bunch of errors that say something like Errno=No space left on device (ENOSPC), then your inotify watcher limit is too low. Run sysctl -n -w fs.inotify.max_user_watches=16384 and then try again. Keep raising the number until the errors go away.

  • If you see an error that says Errno=No such file or directory (ENOENT), then you didn't configure your paths_maps properly. Make sure each entry in the list is a local path to your media on the NAS and then the corresponding library/section name on your PMS.

  • If you're getting an error that says urllib.error.HTTPError: HTTP Error 401: Unauthorized, then you need to set the plex_account_token variable. Follow this link for instructions on how to get your account token. Make sure that when you're setting the variable, you wrap the token in quotes, like this: plex_account_token = 'A2ekcFXjzPqmefBpv8da'

PLEX failing to log me in and slow

Hi, I am running the latest (Version 1.10.0.4523) of PLEX. When launch PLEX on my local network it doesn't seem to log me in (see screenshot below)...I also find it takes longer to launch.

When PLEX does eventually load I can see my content but notice on the top right there is no account logged in. When I navigate to the Server settings I see I am logged in but there is an explanation mark next to my account (see screenshot)

If when I attempt to refresh the page sometimes it logs in automatically and more often it doesn't..

If I click on the Sign Out button nothing happens. However, if I click on the account badge drop-down and try to sign in I get the message 'Plex is not reachable'. I haven't changed anything on my network

Plex Server Does not show up

Suddenly one of my servers have disappeared (two plex servers on the same LAN). I have tried reinstalling several times and after signing onto the server I will get the other plex server library and cloud plex instead.

Running:
Synology DS216+II
DSM 6.1.4-15217 Update 2
I think it was running PlexMediaServer-1.10.0.4523-648bc61d4-x86_64.spk also tried reinstalling with that spk.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's not on the compatibility list, is this because it's a newer model?

Hardware specs:
Intel Celeron J3455
64-bit
Quad Core 1.5 burst up to 2.3 GHz

H.264 (AVC), H.265 (HEVC), MPEG-2 and VC-1; maximum resolution: 4K (4096 x 2160); maximum frame rate per second (FPS): 30

Currently nas station ram is at 6 gb
seems like it should?

I have a newly minted 918+ that I will be using for my PMS. I've read the FAQ, but I wanted to see if there were any best practices during the setup of the NAS? I'll be creating a new shared folder called PMedia that will have all of my Plex media inside it. Right now I have everything on a single volume in RAID 5. Just looking for any tips before I start investing the time and effort in migrating my PMS from the desktop to the NAS.

Hi there,

I just recently downloaded plex for the first time. I downloaded the server from the website for mac and the little chevron symbol is in my bar on the top of my screen. When i click "open plex" it just opens a new tab in chrome and nothing else. Thoughts?

When I click "launch" from the plex website, it goes to my account but just continuously looks for servers and says: "A server could not be found. Download and install Plex Media Server, and it will appear here."

Plex and 4K HDR demo files wont play on LG OLED Tv

Hi, I was wondering why I cannot play a 4K HDR demo file (LG Chess) that lives on my DS916+ NAS through the plex app on my LG OLED55C6T tv? When I access the file using the TV's device connector it plays perfectly but not if I use the plex app. This tells me the tv can play the file but the plex server app on the 916+ is possibly doing something so I get "There was an unknown problem playing this item" (an unexpected error occured downloading the media) message.

Is this a synology issue or perhaps a plex server issue? I had heard something about setting profiles for devices so the server just sends the file unaltered to certain devices? Any ideas?
