Claim Server is not working synology diskstation DS218+

Have you checked the Plex knowledge base and searched on the sub and Google: Yes

Server version: 1.11.3.4803

OS: Linux

Clients, w/ versions, if applicable: trying to claim server via http://ip_of_nas:32400/web/

What you did? Trying to claim server on network.

What happened? Nothing I can see the Request is made:

PMS crashing after a few hours

i use a synology DS916+, latest DSM 6.1.5-15254,
and plex version 1.11.3.4803
my plex is crashing..meaning that it stop working..!
so if i try to stop it and relaunch.. it doesn't work.; it seems the only way is to restart my synology server
i attach the log.. maybe it is because of this error it stops functionning.

DVR shows not visible if they exist in two libraries

So I have my DVR setup to dump shows into its own TV Show library, which I call "DVR Cache". I also have my real tv show library which I call "TV Shows". I separate them because I'd like to do a bunch of pre processing and verification of recorded shows before adding them to my actual "TV Shows" library. One thing I've noticed, however, is that if a tv show already exists in the "TV Shows" library and the DVR records a new episode to the "DVR cache" library it doesn't show up anywhere in Plex! The TV show is clearly recorded to the DVR cache directory, but the media isn't displayed in either library in Plex. I've tried rescanning both libraries but it still won't show up in either library. In addition, this only appears to happen for shows that already exist in the "TV Shows" library. If it's a new show that doesn't exist there then it will be correctly displayed under 'DVR Cache'.

Is this a new bug? Let me know if you need me to capture any info, logs, etc.

I've noticed this issue in both PMS 1.11.1.4753 and the latest 1.12.0.4829, although it could exist in other versions as well.

Upgrading to DS918+ and an NVME drive, thoughts on performance?

I have a 412+ right now that mostly gets used for Plex on our internal network. Considering buying a 918+ to upgrade and an NVME drive. Would I benefit more from performance by setting up the NVME drive as just another volume where all my packages are installed on (including plex), or as an SSD cache?

Plex user resets every time there is a Synology update.

Every time there is a Plex update it seems to reset the user permissions back to admin for the Plex directory, Well admin is disabled as per best practices. Please fix this so the Plex users stays active for the Plex directory, This is monotonous and getting old.

Running Plex on Nas - Synology 918+ - videos no loading beyond 13%

Hi -

Initially raised this on the Roku side of the forums. I basically can't get 90% of my videos to play on Plex when from my NAS. Getting rather worried I've spent best part of a grand on equipment (incl drives) for something that won't work! Specifically bought for storage of movies, TV shows, music, to run on Plex, if I have to return this I need to know soonish...

Any help gratefully received. I initially thought it was a Roku issue as i couldn't find any that worked, however I have found one movie and one TV show that works - however they both work with he audio not in sync.

Please treat me as knowing less rather than more! New to the NAS set-up...

Can't continue playback because the connection with your server was lost 4g lte ios

It seems like everytime i run plex on my iphone on my cell connection 4g/LTE while streaming my music the app looses connection to my server frequently. I have used my laptop connected to my vpn on my nas to play my music from plex and have had no problems. Currently i am streaming music from my plex server on a remote wifi and so far no problems. I checked the logs and i saw a tls handshake error. I ended up completely removing plex from my nas. I deleted the app and then sshd into my nas and the folders that should have been deleted were not present. I removed the user and drive installed plex from synology package center added my whole library, without updating plex to latest version. I am still having this problem and it is very annoying and frustrating. I used to run a windows server 2012 on a desktop pc and used plex never had this problem before PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!

Plex doesn't find any of my videos

Hi,

I'm ready to trash this ... No matter what I do, how I name them, where I store them, Plex media server doesn't find my videos (.mp4, .mkv). Followed the instructions to the letter, to no avail. Really really frustrating.

What kills me is that there is absolutely no debugging possible. It just says "there are no objects in your media library", period. No further information where exactly it has searched, what for it has searched, ... nothing.

If I add the root directory of my share to the media library, then it finds 2 sample videos which came with the Plex installation, nothing else.

What am I missing? Where can I look for more information what's going on? Any comments are highly appreciated.

PMS transcode speeds different with web player and windows player

Hello, I'm a new owner of a DS418play and Plex Pass. I was lured in by the hardware transcoding, but I'm having inconsistent results that I'm unable to diagnose. My transcode speed is different between the web player (app.plex.tv) and the Windows 10 PMP. I have verified both players are transcoding (not direct play!) at the same profile (1080p 10Mbps), but the web player can't keep up and keeps buffering while the Windows PMP does just fine. I turned on verbose logging to see if it was the transcoding speed or some other overhead, but it appears to be the transcoding speed. With Windows PMP the server log shows a speed ratio 3.2 and above while with web player shows a very inconsistent speed ranging from 0.2 to 1.2.

Any ideas?

Mobile Sync on DS918+

When snycing video's for offline view via plex and ios (ipad), what's the transfer speed for this? I own a DS412+ and transcoding is done by 1x, sometimes a bit more because it needs to transcode the files with subtitles. How fast is it with the newer models?

Dear Synology Support & Development,
Bought a Synology DS218play in full trust that you would support a PLEX Media Server on any Synology Platform.
How wrong could I be? Read all about the fact that this ARM processor is not supported yets etc etc.
PLEASE - compile a Media Server release on this processor.

VC1 video buffers with hardware transcoding on DS718+

Hi, I'm having issues watching 1080p BluRay rips that are in VC1 format if hardware transcoding is on.
Video plays for a couple of seconds, then buffers, then plays some more etc. CPU usage is about 25%
If hardware decoding is off, it plays fine, CPU usage is about 75%
No problems with BluRay rips in other codecs - same 25% usage with hardware decoding on and no buffering issues.

You know I’ve been reading these forums for quite sometime and I just want to make sure that @trumpy81 and @ChuckPA get a pat on the back for all you guys do and the questions you painstakingly try to answer with no BS nonsense on this forum. I have made many descisions based on your comments and to this date, based on your comments, I have yet to make a mistake nor be able to solve a problem I’ve encountered.

4K video freezing

Hi all,
I'm trying to investigate the root cause of video freezes when playing some 4K videos, but no success yet, so I need your advice/suggestions what can I check, etc. Here you can see, how does freezing looks like: image .
I'm playing videos directly from Synology DS716+ (RAID1 with two WD6002FFWX-68TZ4N0 disks inside) to my 4K Sony TV 55XE9005 with Android OS. TV is connected to TP-LINK Archer C7 v2 (firmware is the newest-2018-01-17) via WiFI AC standard (TV shows 866 Mbps connection) and NAS is connected via cable to 1 Gbps NIC. Router is hidden right behind the TV. I'm running PLEX server (1.10.0.4523) on NAS and playing videos via PLEX application installed on TV.
Time to time I experience video freezes for 4-5 seconds when playing 4K videos, but not all. It seems that video is freezing only when video bitrate is more than >60 Mbps, but maybe I'm overlooking smth. What is strange, that when video freezes, Plex doesn't say that it's not enough network throughput for streaming videos, what usually happens when it's not enough speed for streaming video file. Also, when playing video file NAS is not transcoding it, because I don't see PLEX transcoding service and CPU load is less than 5%.
I would appreciate any suggestions how can I solve this freezing issue. For troubleshooting purposes I've attached media info and plex media server debug logs.

Synology 918+ Recomendations and Transcoding Questions

Hey guys, I am thinking of setting up my first NAS server for Plex. I will mostly be using this for a media server. I am thinking of getting the 918+. Would this be good enough for my needs?

Currently I do not have any 4k media, but will be hopefully during 2018. So would like the option for 1 4k stream and another 1080p steam at a time or more. I would be streaming to a 4k smart TV, PC & Mac book. The PC/Macbook won't be used at the same time.

Where would the best how to set up Plex and my Synology 918+. I want to have it set up so I can expand with new drives once I get more money and more 4k media.

Currently I have just ripped DVDs with Make MKV, should I run these through handbreak to decrease the size, or leave them in MKV? Would anything help with trans coding once i get it set up?

As well are there any apps etc I should add to enhance my experience with Plex and usability?

Can't start my Plex package on my synology

Hi everybody,

Since a couple of days, I can't start my plex package anymore on my Synology.
I contacted the synology support and after some checks, they told me that this is not a problem on the synology but in the plex package.

Actual configuraiton :
Synology : DSM 6.1.5-15254
Plex : 1.10.0.4523-648bc61d4

What did I already do ? Different tests :

  • uninstall the plex package from the package synology center + install it manually with the last plex version
  • tried to reinstall from the synology package center
  • checked the hard drives
  • checked the memory
  • updated synology to the last version

After all different tests, I still have this error :

Hello All, I am considering buying a ds418play and installing PMS on it but I have concerns on whether it will be able to transcode 1080p videos (or 4k maybe?). Is there anybody here who is using it and can share experiences? Synology marketing material mentions Plex-enabled and 4k transcoding but I am skeptical about it... Thanks!

Anyway to Auto-Restart PMS on crash?

The reason I like docker based Plex is because it can auto-restart on crashes with ease. But I need HW transcoding so I am going to stick with the Synology package.

So want to know of a way to have it auto restart on crashing. Thanks.
