Remote access lost, pushing RAM, Watch Later still not working

A couple of updates ago I managed to enable remote access after having lost it quite a while ago but now it's gone again and now I cannot even manually specify the port.

Also, Plex is asking a lot more RAM since the last update, it never drops to less than 50%. It's also pushing CPU to 99% for what seems the slightest of tasks but CPU eventually drops to 1%. I've never seen this before.

The Watch Later feature, the PlexIt thingy, while off topic perhaps, has also been lost with the penultimate update. I'm going back to the latest non-Plex Pass build, I had none of those problems, but hopefully they get sorted out.

Can't add a Library

Hi,

I have a DS212j, just heard about Plex and was anticipating to try it.
I'm running the latest version of DSM - 5.2-5592 Update 4 (Sep 15).

Have manually installed the latest Plex server version - 0.9.12.11.

System Screenshot

My problem is that Plex shows me empty language selector dropdown when I try to add a library, like this. I think it's the reason why I can't add any content - movies or music to the library.

I found several similar topics which suggested to make sure that:
a) "plex" user has all permissions

Checked, and gave permissions to all folders.

b) clean contents of /volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins, as mentioned here

Also tried this via terminal several times and restarted Plex.
The Plug-ins directory is being automatically re-created but it isn't helping - still can't add a library.

Basically, don't know what else can I do..

Would appreciate any suggestions.

1.5.3 just brought my 1815+ to a screaming halt

Normally an update takes a couple seconds, after waiting 15 minutes and not having any SSH or web access responding, I resorted to requesting a shutdown via the power button .. another 10 minutes later I realized it was not going to shut down clean and had to ... turn it off. Not cool. :/

Upon reboot, Plex is hard stopped and the log is full of:

WARN - Warning: ex: boost::filesystem::last_write_time: No such file or directory: "/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Plug-ins-029f6ffbf", couldn't check file: /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Plug-ins-029f6ffbf

Of course, Syno will let you view the log, but not copy/paste the text, what the heck? So I had to type that by hand.

Some remanent of a really crappy plugin I once had? Or a bad update? As far as I'm aware, I do not have any active plug-ins.

Edit: DSM is 6.0, I haven't done the push to 6.1 yet.

Photo Library Won't Load (Version 1.5.5.3634)

Since updated PMS to Version 1.5.5.3634 my photo library won't load, worked fine before. I now get an error of "There was an unexpected error loading this library - Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems".

Any ideas?

PlexPy or Stat system for PMS on Syno?

Hi,

I m trying since 1 week to setup PlexPy on my Nas Syno.
I use the 5.2 DSM vesrion on my Syno.

I can t find a good tuto to know how to install and run Plexpy.

I Install python, and docker, download and run PlexPy from docker, setup the port on my routeur. But nothing happen, When I try to go on plexpy by Safari http://192.168.1.132:8282 , nothing appear.

Someone could help me ? or maybe give me another solution to see the Plex Stat?

Today i upgraded my synology ds214play to version 1.5.3.3580.
After the upgrade my dashboard was empty. No libraries at all. "The dashboard is empty"

Is it an known issue, or did i do something/something wrong?

Synology NAS Video Stuttering

Hi Everyone

 

This is my first post in this forum, I have a problem with my Synology 1813+ and my Plex Media Server. When I try to watch a video from my NAS, - for instance a MKV file - began to stuttering and the video stop every 5 secs.

I send support request to Synology and they said that my 1813 + is working fine, and also say the problem should be with Plex.

I tried also to run the same file from my main computer, and I have the same problem.

Nothing of this happend when I use my Plex with my main computer (or with apple TV 3) but using the files stored in my computer.

My network is an apple extreme (last generation).

I m a bit worried about my Synology and my Plex working together. I want to use Plex as my main Media/Movie Server, this is really great in every aspect, but I have a lot of movies and series, so I need a big space, because of that I need all my files works with my 1813+

Plex Photos

Hi, I have the latest PlexMediaServer-1.5.5.3634-995f1dead-x86, it is working great as always in my Synology DS415+.
I would like to know if there is somebody in this forum who is using PlexPhotos with NAS, I have a huge number of pictures, 30K+.
I am MAC user and wonder if my NAS/Plex can support this large amount of pictures before I go for Premium account. Any help or comment is very appreciated.

Synology 1515+, MAKEMKV, LG Plex Streaming or Chromecast, Stuttering issues.

Hello everyone. It seems my 1515+ has just recently started to do this now. I would get a lot of stuttering issues in my PLEX when it is playing a movie. Sometimes it will just give up and stop. I use MKV to convert the Blu-Ray to the NAS for playback. But maybe the NAS can't handle it.

Thought it was my new TV with plex installed but I went back to the old way using Chrome cast and my phone and it did it there as well. Stuttering especially with lots of action scenes. It sometimes gives up and won't continue. My nas has 16gb of memory too. Any help would be appreciated. I spent a lot of money to make this my plex media server and I'm sad this has started.

So it seems when I run plex, I am using 99% cpu on my NAS, Memory is 19%, and network is barely moving. 1.2mb sec up and 10kb down.
Plex Transcoder is using 94.7 cpu, and memory 287.2mb.
I have 1GB ethernet in my house, and the WIFI is run with my EERO Mesh system, and has extremly high speed between devices.

I was using MKV, and I just tried HandBrake, and I get a no valid source or titles found when it looks at the disc. What am I doing wrong then?

Now I am trying to turn off all the subtitles as I came across that mentioned, to see if that helps.

Synology DS916+ and Plex Media Server

Hello,

I've been researching for a while but can't find a satisfying answer, I hope some of you can help me find it.

Since my Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 is no longer supported (and I've been thinking about purchasing a new NAS for a while) I'm thinking about purchasing the Synology DS916+ with Intel Pentium N3710 CPU (same as the WD PR-4100).

As far as I could find on this community, the WD PR-1400 is supported by Plex for Hardware Transcoding.
Will this also be the case for the Synology DS916+, since it has the same CPU?

I will be streaming 1080p (and in the future 4K) MKVs to my Samsung TV in the living room, mostly all of it will be Direct Play (so no transcoding needed).
Every once in a while I will be streaming to my Samsung TV in the bedroom, this will be transcoding 1080p to a Google Chromecast (new version).
Transcoding to an iPad Air 2 may also be a option in the future.

Will the DS916+ be up to those tasks with Plex Media Server and will Plex support the (built-in) Hardware Transcoding of this NAS?

Help installing PlexPy

Hi,

I've been asking around for help with installing PlexPy. I tried to use docker, but I could not get the settings to save properly on a reboot of NAS. I tried to install via PlexPys Linux instructions but on a reboot I can no longer find the /opt/PlexPy directory.

Would like some step by step help.

4K buffering on direct play

Got an issue when playing 4k to my samsung ju6800 TV. I have the DS1515+ running plex version 1.0.0.2261.

I'm trying to play a file which has a total bitrate of 43Mbps. I set it on direct play and it starts playing but stutters constantly. I have checked the resource manager in DSM and it stutters when the network goes over 10MB/s. Now this makes me think the TV only has a 10/100 network card but cant find any info about it.

I can normally transfer files to and from the nas at 100MB/s so its not the limitation of the nas.

Any ideas? TV or Plex?

I've tried plex over the yrs even paying for plex pass but service has always been inconsistent. There's no such thing as setting it and forgetting it. Having a connection one day means having to re-connect manually the next. Thought I'd re-try plex with a new NAS, hoping the old problems with disconnections would disappear. Nope, same old lousy service. Thanks for taking my $100

Not Enough CPU

I've been running Plex on my 1815+ for a while with no issues. Tonight when we tried to play a TV episode via the Plex app on our Tivo, I got the 'Not Enough CPU to Convert Content' error. I checked on the Synology and my CPU utilization is stable around 15% for DSM, and there is nothing else running besides Plex. I've never seen this error before, and I don't know what kind of conversion would be needed since the Tivo should support the file natively, I would think. I've watched other episodes from this show on the Tivo with no issues, prior to updating Plex Server to 1.5.5.

Any idea how to troubleshoot this? Should I restart Plex server? The Synology? Tivo?

Gigabit wired Ethernet to Gigabit Meraki switch
Plex Server 1.5.5

Tivo T6 from Cable Co. running the Plex app
MOCA (Coax)-to-Ethernet connection back to same switch as the Synology

Plex server not showing and cannot be looked up, not even directly on the IP?!

I have Plex server 1.5.5.3634-995F1DEAD installed on my Synology RS815+ and when I am trying to connect to it directly I only can see the Web, Users and Unit parts under the Settings. I can't anymore set up a fresh server?!
I have earlier on have Plex running on an old server, but no more... Then I had tested some about Plex Cloud, but I didn't like it, so now I just want to setup my own server again, for what it seams like I can't??
Can anyone help me?

Synology DS3615xs vs DS3617xs

Synology just released as new NAS, the DS3617xs. I want to let people know that if they were considering the DS3617xs over the DS3615xs that technically speaking there is only one difference in regards to Plex usage and that is the CPU. I own both units and have completely dismantled them for hardware comparison. Everything inside and out are identical with the exception of the CPU and cooler. Of course the motherboard is updated to handle the FCBGA1667 socket, but other than that they are the same. Yes the DS3617xs can run with 48Gb instead of 32Gb of the DS3615xs, but Plex does not need much memory to do any of its work. I think I max'd out at around 2Gb with a full load from Plex. I have 4Gb installed.

The DS3615xs uses a i3-4130 Haswell CPU and the DS3617xs uses a Xeon® Processor D-1527. Now several months ago I decided to upgrade my DS3615xs with a faster CPU. I found the best CPU to be a Xeon E3-1246L v3 Haswell. I could have shelled out another $400 and got the Xeon E3-1286L v3, but he spec were not that much higher and did not warrant the extra cash.

You will need to upgrade the CPU cooler as well. I used the Noctua NH-D9L. Key here is the socket support (FCLGA1150). Now I could have gone with a i7-4765T, but it lack the higher CPU clock speed, 3Ghz vs 3.9Ghz in turbo mode. Base frequency is about 1.5Ghz in difference. Even the DS3617xs' CPU has a slower base frequency of the DS3615xs by 1.2Ghz

There is about $1,000 difference with both units current availability and you can pickup the Xeon E3-1246L v3 for about $370 on Amazon and the Noctua NH-D9L for $55. Unit runs around 40C at full load with this setup.
