Considering the Synology DS416PLAY not sure if I want to run Plex on it, what do I need to know?

Hi all,

I am running low on storage and I currently run Plex as a VM and mount a NFS file system off of a Virtual NAS.. I want to get away from some of the complexity on the NAS setup but I am also considering running Plex On the NAS.

What is the state of Plex on this NAS? What about the trans-coding beta? Nearly all of my content is 720p/1080p h264 content but my client devices are a mix of smart TVs, consoles and smartphones so trans-coding is important, however we rarely have more than 1 or 2 streams going at once.

Initially I plan on keeping Plex on its current VM and just migrate the media files to the NAS but since Plex is so closely linked to my media I would love just to move it to the NAS.

Synology Can't setup server after system restore

I've been using Plex on my Synology for quite some time with no issues. A few days ago I replaced the drives on my synology and installed everything again. Then I restore my synology settings.

Now the plex server app is working but it can't find server. The problem is that there is no option to set up the server. I tried what I mentioned on the link below with no success.

I have tried installing it via the Package. I've downloaded it straight from Plex. And I've used Docker, all with the same results. Also tried other browsers.

Plex now says it doesn't allow secure connections and I can't log in?

I just went to try and log into my plex server at work and it came up (after I logged in with my 4 digit pin) and it comes up with a page that says "it does not allow secure connections." picture below...

It was working last night. And now I have no way of getting into the server. I have tried Allow once, Allow always and it reloads the screen back to log in and then it won't ever log in.

I am not sure how to fix this. I have tried remotely logging in, I tried logging in on a computer in the home network. I have turned off plex server and back on in the Synology NAS that it is run on. Any ideas?

Help installing PlexPy

Hi,

I've been asking around for help with installing PlexPy. I tried to use docker, but I could not get the settings to save properly on a reboot of NAS. I tried to install via PlexPys Linux instructions but on a reboot I can no longer find the /opt/PlexPy directory.

Would like some step by step help.

Hi,

I m trying since 1 week to setup PlexPy on my Nas Syno.
I use the 5.2 DSM vesrion on my Syno.

I can t find a good tuto to know how to install and run Plexpy.

I Install python, and docker, download and run PlexPy from docker, setup the port on my routeur. But nothing happen, When I try to go on plexpy by Safari http://192.168.1.132:8282 , nothing appear.

Someone could help me ? or maybe give me another solution to see the Plex Stat?

Running on Synology, Rackstation RS-3617xs+
DSM: 6.1.3-15152 Update 1
Plex server: PlexMediaServer-1.8.0.4109-42bd8c63f-x86_64

I was utilizing the Plex web interface for configuration and media editing - all normal stuff. Then one page transition the web interface fails to reload. This occured on a version 1.5.xxx I have since updated the Plex package and DSM version several times.

I get "The connection was reset" error in Waterfox (firefox) - different from an address with nothing. I assume it's a glitch, and stop/start the Plex package - no improvement. I uninstall/reinstall Plex - no improvement. I reboot the entire Rackstation - no improvement.

I have tried turning off everything related to web serving in case something was conflicting - Synology web server, all http related security features, firewall stayed off. No improvement.

Always I've been able to stream content to a player, and add content by dropping it in a monitored folder. That all works, I just can't access the web interface, therefore I can't change settings or touch up library info.

I have webtools running and can send all logs, but here is the main log:

HEVC / x265 on Synology with hardware transcoding

I know this is known to cause issues, but I was actually surprised that my DS716+II does play 265 content, event 10 bit hevc. But it does sometimes show artifacts when it is transcoding (like playback in webbroswer of in the iOS app. During playback, the load on the NAS isn't very high or something, so I was wondering: are these artifacts maybe something that can be improved upon in later version?

"plex" User Credentials

Hi everyone,

I'm running Plex Media Server on my DiskStation DS916+. Upon installing the Plex Media Server package, the automatically system creates a user called "plex". I would like to toughen its security setting because I see it as a potential vulnerability.

  1. Does anyone know what are is the default password of that user?
  2. Is it possible to change the default password without hampering Plex's normal function?
  3. Is it possible to set Synology's 2-step verification to the "plex" user?

Can no longer find server

Plex has been running on my Synology DS216play fine for a couple of years now. The DS216 was connected to an apple airport which was connected via ethernet to my isp modem. Amazingly never had any double NAT issues. The airport recently died so had to go out and get a new wireless router. I bought a Netgear Nighthawk D7000. Did the initial set up and was all running fine until I discovered I could no longer connect remotely...the dreaded Double NAT issue. Unfortunately putting my modem into bridge mode isn't an option as I use all its ethernet ports. Tried all sorts of methods, in the end the simplest solution seemed to be to put the new router into AP mode leaving the original router to dal all the NAT/DHCP stuff (sorry, i'm not very good with this networking stuff).
Did that and now plex won't connect at all! I can access my synology fine, IP address all on the same subnet, etc. Tried reinstalling plex on the server....nothing.
Any ideas?

Remote Access not working on Synology DS416play

Hi... Plex Remote Access issue here.

I have two plex servers on my network, a Synology DS416play and a Mac mini. Both are configured for Remote access. Both use port forwarding, configured in my router. Each server has its own external port, and each has its own external port configured in Settings / Remote Access / Manually specify port. UPNP is disabled in my router.

The mac mini is visible to Plex outside my network. The DS416play is NOT.

When I initially enable Remote Access in Synology, the indicator goes green, then it immediately turns to red.

I thought maybe it was a IPv6 issue, so I disabled IPv6 on my DS416play. I also verified that the DS416play's IP address appears in the list of connections shown by my router.

I have heard some rumours that IPv6 might cause problems for Remote Access. In case it matters, my ISP is a dual stack, showing iPv6 and IPv4 at whatsmyipaddress dot com. However, this does not seem to be an issue for the Plex server on my Mac mini.

I am using manual port 32405 and have ports 32400-32414 open in my DS416play firewall.

Anybody have any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this?

No Media Will Playback After Update - Error Shaka3016

I just updated to the latest version of Plex for my DS916+ and no music or videos will playback in Internet Explorer. The error says "An Error Occurred trying to play - Shaka3016. Never seen this error before. Tried downgrading and it won't let me. Any help would be appreciated. Everything worked just fine prior to update. Thanks.

Synology DS216+II, will it work?

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my current NAS (ReadyNAS 2 Ultra Plus) to a DS216+II.
Plex Media Server is running fine for my needs on the ReadyNAS (streaming to Apple TV/iPad).

But after reading a bit, I'm getting a tad confused about wether or not I will have at least an equal or better experience on the DS216+II.

If there's anyone here who could shine a little light on my concerns regarding Plex Media Server and the DS216+II.

buen dia, podrian ayudarme por favor a configurar de forma correcta mi servidor plex, soy nueva en esto...ademas todo esta en ingles, el principal problema que tengo es que hace mucho buffering cuando transmite de forma remota, o da algunos errores, no se puede conectar, se pausa, o ayer simplemente me salia que el contenido no estaba disponible. tengo pelis en 1080p, 720p, hasta en avi, y aun asi algunas hacen buffering ( solo de forma remota, en local me funciona bien)

mi cpu es un pentium dual core 2 nucleos de 2.8 GHz
4 gigas de ram ddr3
windows 8.1
tengo solo 6.5 Mb de subida

So applied the latest update for synology ds1815+ and now I get an error saying plex failed to start the package service. Anyone else applied the latest dsm update?

I am running a DS216 and an HDHomerun Connect. I can record, but I can't watch anything as it says the DS216 just isn't powerful enough. I don't understand why the apps have to have the mpeg2 content converted at all, why is not able to play the raw mpeg2? Has anyone had any luck setting up a working, practical Plex DVR with their Synology? Does the Extend make a world of difference or does it have it's own issues?
