just received my ds218play and I am wondering if there is a way to get Plex running on it?
My DSM Version is 6.1.1-15152 Update 8.
Any help would be great.

Play back qulaity
the Video i'm watching is 1080P, when i choose the high playback quality during the movie it doesn't look 1080P on my TV, when i play the same movie on the Synology Video player it looks 1080P, i put all options on my server to Maximum and same ting.
So now i'm optimizing each video to original quality, 2 questions:
Will it forever be at the original quality play back ?
Or
Will if revert to lower quality every time i play the movie ?

Plex Media Server Package Won't Start
Plex Server Version: 1.9.7.4441
DSM Version: 6.1.4-15217
NAS Model: DS916+
I manually updated the Plex Media Server package this morning (as I have done multiple times before). However, when I attempted to run the service, I received the following error: Failed to run the package service.
When I log into SSH and look at the /var/log/messages, I've found the following lines after every attempt to run the package:

I then looked at the real-time processes via htop command, I can see the server attempt to start, but then the process stops and drops off the list. I have uninstalled the full package and reinstalled with no issues. I have rebooted my NAS after the uninstall and re-install. As I can't access the application, I cannot get the logs. I've even attempted to purge the /volume1/Plex directory (I have backups).
Any thoughts?

Agents not downloading metadata
No matter which agent I use, or the age of the movie I add, all of a sudden plex is not downloading metadata when matching movies. They are all named exactly according to convention and no different than I have been doing for years. Even if I select fix match and click the appropriate title, no metadata including year, cast, description, etc is downloaded whether I use Plex Movie or TMD. This has occurred on 1.4.2.3400 and when I rolled back to 1.3.4.3285

Failed to run the package service with no log
Dear All,
I have a Synology DS214se NAS (CPU: MARVELL ARmada 370) with DSM 5.1-5055.
Long time ago I was using Plex on it but once something went wrong and now I cannot make Plex start running.
I tried to reinstall it dozens of times, some earlier versions as well, unfortunately I did not succeed with any of them.
Installation seems ok, but when I click on "run" it sais "Failed to run package service". Unfortunately no log file is created. (I looked in Plex directory with File Station, but the ../Log directory is not created either.) The very recent version of Plex I was trying to make work is 1.5.3.3580-4b377d295.
I found some SSH commands on forums that might help, but those do not work either because for "sudo" it sais "sudo: not found".
I modified the permission for the Plex" directory for the "plex" user from custom to read/write. Did not help either.
What else should I do? I am not so familiar with linux. Thanks for any help!

Problems after Updating to Version 1.9.7.441
Hello,
I updated to the Version 1.9.7.441. This works fine. But now the Service won't start again. An error message appears.
"The Paket-Service could not start"
Have someone an Idea that's the problem could be?

A server could not be found.
Hello!
I updated my DS214se synology NAS to DSM 6.1.3-15152.
I could install and run Plex successfully. Version is 1.5.3.3580-4b377d295.
But when I click on the plex link (..:32400/web) the page loads but the "Looking for servers..." just keeps rolling, it does not find it. I tryed disabling firewall and VPN, did not help.
I attached the log files.

Why is Plex taking so long to index my music library?

Yesterday I set up a DS416Play and installed Plex. It's been nearly 24 hours and it's still not finished indexing my music library - and then it has to get onto the video, photos etc! Is this normal? My library is fully tagged and organised in artist folders with each artist having subfolders for each album - from what I understand from reading online this should help speed things up but it doesn't seem to be the case. It is a big library though - 21 000 songs.
On top of that when I try to play songs it has already scanned it doesn't work.
If it's not normal, I'd love any advice on how to fix this problem.

I uninstalled Plex from my Synology Diskstation and from the Android tablet. But......
But I still get an alert "Plex on wifinetwork" on my android phone (where I have never insatlled Plex). How do I get rid of this?

Plex server gone missing. I NEED YOUR HELP!!
Hello, first time asking a question. I have a NAS Synology that is attached to my next work where my Plex server is set up. everything was fine up until a month or two ago when mobile apps would no be "Authorized" to connect to the server. including my own phone logged into the same account. things came to a head last night when i setup a 4K Apple TV and it wasn't "Authorizing" that but my standard Gen 4 Apple TV was fine. so i started investigating it on my Server. i reset my NAS and when it came back online my Plex server was no longer able to be found. when i look up folders being shared under users everything shows red but that the 2 folders i was sharing did exist. on my desktop computer under "my Computer" my Plex server icon is there and all the submenus still exist. when i open my Plex on my desktop all i see is the Plex cloud and a photo folder i had on there yet my other folders are missing and the server name it self is non existent. I'm at a loss to know what happened and curious if this is due to a recent server update i did from Plex. so couple questions.
- has anyone experienced there Server/Folders just being gone and what looks like the server never existed and what could have happen and can i recover it?
- what makes a Mobile app or other apps not being able to "Authorize" and seeing the server? any help would be great.
side note. i have read on some things but once you guys start talking tokens and other more in depth things i start getting lost.

HW Transcoding seems to stop working after every DSM upgrate requiring a plex package re-install
Just installed the most recent DSM update DSM 6.1.4-15217 Update 1 for my DS916+ and it looks like all transcoding has reverted to software only.
The enable hw transcoding setting is set in plex still.
Last time this happened re-installing plex fixed it but this will be annoying with the frequency that DSM updates come out.

Unable to transcode OTA MPEG2VIDEO Reliably
I have a Synology DS918+ which has a Intel Celeron J3455
I am running PMS 1.9.7.4441
I have hardware transcoding enabled under server settings. I can transcode MPEG4 to H264 just fine. The problem comes when I try to stream OTA content via Plex Live TV (sourcing from HDHomeRun) doing MPEG2VIDEO to H264 (hw) transcoding. Consistently, once a minute the stream freezes for 5-10 seconds. If I let the stream buffer ahead, I will not experience stream freezes until I catch up to the buffer, then I continue to get a 5-10 freeze every minute.
The NAS can perform MPEG2VIDEO to H264 transcoding in software, but it uses 90% CPU from the 4-cores.
My question is, is the CPU/GPU not capable of performing hardware transcoding for MPEG2VIDEO to H264? Or is this a software issue?

DS213 keep getting "operation failed" on manual install
As the title said I'm using the arm package with a DS213 and it keeps telling me the operation failed when I try with any manual install of Plex. The one from the synology source works fine though, can anyone help me?

Synology NAS DS418play setup and config
Hello,
First off I apologize if I have missed or over looked if someone else has already posted about this. I am super new to this and a little lost. I recently purchased a DS418play and I wanted to install plex media server and transfer my current library.
*I need a little guidance as far as to which packet to install on the NAS I see three options 32,64 and an arm.
*How do I move my library from my computer to the NAS and do I need to so anything special to config it?
and if you have any suggestions or advice please let me know I just want to learn as much as possible.

Plex Media Server Hardware Transcoding on Synology DS216+II
As of version Plex Media server 1.9.3.4290, the script below is no longer required and Plex Hardware Transcoding works out-of-the-box.

Please keep in mind that HW Transcoding with Plex Media Server ("PMS") is still in an experimental stage and requires a Plex Pass.
I did manage to do get HW Transcoding working on my new Synology DS216+II by doing to following. The first solution is the "safe" solution and requires no knowledge of SSH at all. The second solution requires some knowledge of SSH, and this solution will be implemented by Plex in the next release
Solution 1 (no SSH knowledge required)
1. Stop your current PMS
2. Download the PlexMediaServer build 1.8.1.4140 - Hardware Transcoding Preview 4 for Synogly from this link

3. Install downloaded PMS. If you current PMS is higher than 1.8.1 you need to remove your current PMS installation first.

6. Go to Control Panel -> Task Scheduler
7. Create -> Triggered Task -> User-defined script
8. In General, Task: "Allow transcoder hardware access", User: root, Event: Boot-up, Check Enabled
9. In Task settings, run command:

chgrp video /dev/dri -R
chmod 755 /dev/dri
chmod 666 /dev/dri/*
fi
10 . Restart PMS and HW Transcoding should be enabled on your Synology DS216+II
Solution 2 (requires SSH knowledge)
1. Stop your current PMS
2. Download the PlexMediaServer build 1.8.1.4140 - Hardware Transcoding Preview 4 for Synogly from this link

Replace with: SUBSYSTEM=="drm", GROUP="video", MODE="0660"
7.Restart PMS and HW Transcoding should be enabled on your Synology DS216+II
Plex is investigating a solution to make the PMS with hardware decoding working out-of-the-box on a Synology NAS. The issue is caused on how Synology configured the access the transcoder device on the NAS. Solution 2 will be implemented in the next PMS release with hardware transcoding.

DSM 6.2beta, DS718+ & x265 hardware transcoding?
x264 hardware transcoding with Plex seems to work fine, however x265 doesn't. Anyone knows the current status of x265 transcoding & Plex? Videostation transcodes x265 but the result is pretty terrible in terms of quality..
I have not expanded RAM at the moment, if that might disable x265 transcoding(?)

Plex not updating all movies from NAS to PMS
I have a 916Plus Synology unit, i download my movies to a folder called Movies, Plex has access to this because i see 90% of all my movies but it doesn't show the others, the other it doesn't show have the same extension as the ones that are showing.
Any thoughts ?

Hi !!
I'm playing with the settings of flex media server, and I wondered if the Odroid xu4 can transcode the H265.
I saw some tutorials the show how to modify the 'main.js' file, and I did them but it was unsuccessful.
Have someone here tried to decode a H265 file through with plex?

Getting Plex to work on Synology DS418play
Hi,
I'm pretty new to Plex and Synology, too, so I'd like to apologize, if I overlooked something. I've installed Plex Media Server 1.9.4.4325-bf24240a65 on my Synology DS418play running DSM 6.1.4-15217, but when I try to open Main Menu / Plex Media Server I get the error: "Safari can't connect to the server. Safari can't open the page "diskstation:32400/web" because Safari can't connect to the server "diskstation"".
Package Center shows Plex Media Server as running. The certificate is installed, Plex firewall is disabled and Set MTU value manually is disabled as well.
Do you have any ideas?
