this is my first install of plex on this NAS.
I download this version of Plex Server "https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-medi...exMediaServer-1.9.6.4429-23901a099-x86_64.spk"
and when i install this one i have an error: "port "undefined" is already in use by other service"
can you help me please ?
Plex on my iPhone8 has started to behave strange. Not sure if it's something wrong with Plex (using the latest PlexPass version at the time I write this), or something with my DS718+ NAS running DSM6.2beta.

I have a Synology NAS running Plex Server. The Plex server is working well and I can access content on the local NAS.
However, the majority of my media is on other Windows storage on the same local network. I've shared the folders in Windows that have the media and other Windows devices can see them OK. How do I configure the Synology NAS to access the Windows shares? I'm assuming I have to make a permanent mount to the relevant Windows host / share, but I'm not sure how this is done.

There is any solution to bring back my lost metadata?

With the DS418play featuring the Celeron J3355 with QVS (Quick Sync Video), should it not be capable of default hardware transcoding up to a certain resolution? I don't seem to get the results I was expecting.
Synology just released as new NAS, the DS3617xs. I want to let people know that if they were considering the DS3617xs over the DS3615xs that technically speaking there is only one difference in regards to Plex usage and that is the CPU. I own both units and have completely dismantled them for hardware comparison. Everything inside and out are identical with the exception of the CPU and cooler. Of course the motherboard is updated to handle the FCBGA1667 socket, but other than that they are the same. Yes the DS3617xs can run with 48Gb instead of 32Gb of the DS3615xs, but Plex does not need much memory to do any of its work. I think I max'd out at around 2Gb with a full load from Plex. I have 4Gb installed.
The DS3615xs uses a i3-4130 Haswell CPU and the DS3617xs uses a Xeon® Processor D-1527. Now several months ago I decided to upgrade my DS3615xs with a faster CPU. I found the best CPU to be a Xeon E3-1246L v3 Haswell. I could have shelled out another $400 and got the Xeon E3-1286L v3, but he spec were not that much higher and did not warrant the extra cash.

You will need to upgrade the CPU cooler as well. I used the Noctua NH-D9L. Key here is the socket support (FCLGA1150). Now I could have gone with a i7-4765T, but it lack the higher CPU clock speed, 3Ghz vs 3.9Ghz in turbo mode. Base frequency is about 1.5Ghz in difference. Even the DS3617xs' CPU has a slower base frequency of the DS3615xs by 1.2Ghz
There is about $1,000 difference with both units current availability and you can pickup the Xeon E3-1246L v3 for about $370 on Amazon and the Noctua NH-D9L for $55. Unit runs around 40C at full load with this setup.

Hello, for a few weeks now, Plex has been crashing.
I updated to 1.9.7.4460 but that did not resolve the problem.
If I reboot the DiskStation (DS1815+), Plex will come back up and I can access the app and start a show.
Shortly after, Plex will crash again and the webapp or tv app won't be able to connect.
Restarting Plex from Package Center does not resolve the issue. A full DiskStation reboot is required, ugh.
How would I go about troubleshooting this issue?
I log into plex server using local ip. Undser settings i have "web, users, devices". On home page i have "Looking for server... A server could not be found. Download and install Plex Media Server, and it will appear here."

with cyber monday I plan on buying a NAS sysnology seems to be the one I have been looking at. I currenlty run plex on my mac and it work great with no issues. I only do local streaming no remote. I mainly use plex plugins but do get some mkv and avi files to watch.
I have roku 3's and Firetv 4k boxes. I thought they do the transcoding however I am not 100% sure. So I only need a 2bay nas
Do I buy nas like DS218+ and run plex on it or something else and have the macbook run plex and just map to the NAS.
Or is it possible to have plex on nas and do transcoding on macbook
I have been running plex on a DS1515+ for some time but not long ago I keep getting this error message.
There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard
to get me by I started running PMS on my computer and it is working fine.
After one of the updates, I have lost the ability to pull up the web interface on my sinology.
I use to be able to go to http://192.x.x.x:32400/web/index.html
But not any longer. My xbox can see the movies just fine. So I'm not sure what the issue is.
Unable to login/view my Plex Media Server from http://172.x.x.x:32400/web/index.html.
The port 32400 with both UDP and TCP has been added to my ASUS router and confirmed working.
Same port has been added to the Synology NAS with DSM installed.
I know for a fact that this is related to the NAS since i successfully can start my PMS from my windows machine. (installed just to test).
Since PMS is installed on my Synology NAS, i am unable to access it via http://localhost and/or http://127.0.0.1.
Support appriciated because I am stuck here.

On my synology i have created a folder that is shared on my network, so my family can access it true another PC and this folder is the plex library. I have a couple of users on my synology, and some of the users can read the folder others can read and write the shared folder. But every time i update the plex server it resets the shared folder permission that only the 'plex' user can access the folder
Having just switched over to a Fire TV stick, I've been caught by a bug which was "fixed" by the Plex devs by forced burning in all subtitles on the server.
What I'm seeing is that the video starts playing, then pauses, plays, pauses etc.
Not powerful enough, must be, that's my first thought. Obviously prior to HW transcoding, transcoding was a no-go on my DS916, CPU pegged at 100% and the buffering meant that it wasn't going to work.
What's odd here though is that when this burning of subtitles is happening (using hardware decode+encode) the CPU doesn't get pegged to 100%, in fact I see a max of about 30% but I still see the play, pause, play, pause happening.
Any thoughts?

earlier I used PMS from WIN7 and everything worked good. Now I bought DS918+ and subtitles are not display when they are in mkv. I red that this model has no performance to transcode 1080 video (mkv with subtitle has to be transcoded, isn't it?). Is some optionst to do that? What about M2 cache other RAM module (I can extend from 4GB to 8GB) or it is all about weak CPU (can I boost it?)?
Solution with NAS is now worst for me, than origin solution with laptop.
I dont have a premium account, I only want everything local and direct play. I love the plex interface but have had problem ever since I started using it. I always end up where the client loses connection to the server. Only fix is to restart the plex service on the synology nas. I've done about all I can with settings, disabling DLNA, trying to get direct as much as possible, etc. Duration varies, sometimes I can get a whole movie in, most of the time I cant. Sometimes I only have to restart once, other times it's just a battle and I quit in frustration. I see others that report of similar problems but it seems theirs are tied to transcoding or the like which Im not doing.

Not sure what version is on the firetv2 but there are no additional updates so it is latest.
I see below in the logs (time is around when connection stopped) it does it on any movie, it seems it loses network connectivity but not sure how/why? firetv plays everything else non stop, all day long. Also everything is local on the same subnet so not sure why it needs to get internet connection? DHCP lease is 24 hours but i get the same results even when doing static. Is firetv a crappy client? Would nvidia shield be any better?

Hello - I've been meaning to throw this out for awhile, but it bit me in the butt recently (H265) hence the post. So, I was talking with a Technical guy at the Synology booth and we were talking about Plex. He suggested I use their own product, and when I pressed him on it the answer was that "ours is better because the PLEX folks refuse to use our hardware de/encoding library..." The question I have, Is that guy full of crap and talking smack? If you are, how can I verify through the PLEX software or Synology DSM for that matter? He almost made it sound like you folks purposefully aren't doing hardware encoding on that platform, kinda nefarious like.

I am trying to install Plex on my NAS DS218+, which based on the forum below...

...It appears it is possible. I have enabled SSH and gained access to my NAS but cannot find the INFO file (shown in forum above) to configure it. I attained root access but the file is not there. Is it as simple as creating it?
Will this file automatically place the app in the package center or automatically download the application?
It is not clear to me.
I tried to find more information on this but it alludes me. Can I please have more guidance.
