Just purchased the Plex Pass. Been using Plex for a few years now, did not like the implementation of music for a long time, mainly because there was no playlist support. I know this is still not really supported fully (m3u files etc.), which is pretty crappy, but I do actually manage my playlist files from an iTunes installation on my main desktop (and just export them as m3us for other music managers).

My music however is all located on my Synology Diskstation. Does anyone know how I can get my playlists to go with my music when creating a Music library in Plex? Everything Plex puts up there for resources is extremely vague, really saying nothing more than: "Enabling this option will attempt to import your music playlists from iTunes. It will also import your ratings, the date you added the music, as well as play and skip counts for tracks in your library. This option requires that iTunes be installed in the default location on the computer running Plex Media Server.".

So can I just copy my itunes library XML file to my Synology's music share or something? How does this work?

I have a DS918+ with 16GB Ram and 256GB Samsung NVMe R/W SSD Cache.
After 3 days I only have for 15 movies bif files. Why its so slowly?? For the other 450 Movies i need 100 Days or more????

1.11.3.4803 unstable on synology 1815+

Since i've installed 1.11.3.4803 its been very unstable. PLEX silently crashes the web server, nothing shows up on ip:32400/ or clients cannot connect to plex server on nas. Stopping and restarting the service does not fix it, have to hard reboot NAS to return plex working. Can't seem to downgrade. either.

I have three synology servers suddenly when i have in a folder one movie downloaded once its shows it twice i have double titles noticed it all my media servers. Example i have hulk icon will show hulk and then the year underneath and then i get double icon which says hulk and then instead of the year underneath i get movie

Hi!

My simple question will, in the end, be: Is there any reason at all to choose a DS1817+ instead of a DS918+ plus the DX517 extension?

Background: I recently decided to get my first NAS ever, having been afraid of all things Linux etc. Got a DS418play maybe 2 months ago with 4 8Tb WD Red. Satisfied with basically everything although my learning curve for getting Docker etc to work was steep.
Anyhow, I filled those hard drives way faster than I intended and now I want to expand. Apart from some documents and a lot of photographs, the intended use is Plex. I have a 4k TV in the bedroom with a nVidia Shield connected and within a year plan to get a large TV in the living room. Furthermore, I stream to a couple of friends' iPads outside the home network and a single Android phone (Samsung Galaxy 9). Most material is remuxed bluray. I have a 1000/1000 internet connection. Also, and probably important, I most often use subtitles.
Now, the only reason I thought about the 1817+ is that I simply liked the idea of one case instead of two which I realise is the worst reason ever. I will be easy to convince to get the 918/517, but I just want to be really sure about the pros and cons.

Any thoughts from the experts here?

DS916/DS918 and HW transcode quality

I currently have a DS916+ that I've been using HW transcode on for about the last 6-8 months. I moved to this system from a larger box that used software transcoding. While I like the compact size and reduced power usage, the quality difference between QSV and software kind of bugs me. I'm also starting to get some 4k and h.265 content, which the DS916 doesn't always handle that well.

I'm thinking about moving to a DS918+, and I was wondering if anyone could give me their impressions on the differences between the two systems. In particular:
1. Does the HD500 QSV in the DS918 have better h.264 output?
2. Will the Plex HW transcode engine output h.265 to clients that support it? (My clients are recent FireTV and AppleTV boxes with h.265 HW decode.)
3. If so, is the output higher quality than h.264, lower bitrate, or both?

So got the email today about the editing of tags in automagic identified albums. The problem is, when I hit the pencil icon in the Plex Web Client, I don't get a Tag category on the left, only 'General' and 'Info'. So I don't see any way to edit the tags. What am I missing?

Some info: Running latest server version, 1.11.3.4803. Plex Pass member, photo album has "Automatically tag my photos!" selected.

This has been getting slowly worse with each update to the plex app but now it's completely inoperable.
the plex app will not find any files while scanning the library even though the plex user has read/write.
I've followed the corrupted database guide, I've followed the clean reinstall guide, SSH'd in, deleted all database files and metadata to start with a clean slate. New install still doesn't find any files when scanning.
have confirmed through command line and webGUI that the plex user has read/write access to the folders needed.
So I'm out of ideas. It looks like a permissions issue, except there is no visible/provable permissions issue. Which means there's no way to fix it.
running top over ssh seems to confirm that Plex Media Server and the scanning agents are running as the plex user. There's nothing in the release notes for the new 1.12 that would imply it has been patched.
happy to include any details I might have left out if anyone has an idea.

Hi,

I've installed PMS from the Synology package center.
I created the Plex user.

When I went and check in the User Accounts, I see that the Plex user is not only a regular user but is also part of the administrators group ?

Is it required ?
I'm thinking of removing it from the Administrators group for security reasons.

Hi.
I got a Synology DS718+
It is running Plex Version 1.10.0.4523 from the package center.

When watching movies h.264 1080p on my Samsung TV QE55Q7, it keeps lagging. I use the built in tv plex app.

What settings should I use, to avoid the buffering/lagging, as it is very annoying that the movie stops every minute for few seconds?

I have a Synology DS916+ and the check box to enable hardware transcoding isn't present under settings. I've been reading around the forums and can't quite piece together what I need to do to get my box to use hardware transcoding with Plex. I have Plex Pass and the latest PMS (1.12.0.4829-6de959918) and current DSM as well. Can someone please give me a simple explanation on how to get this working, aka "enabling hardware transcoding for dummies?" Thanks!

Hello,

... how to uninstall Plex completely from my Synology NAS?

I was able to uninstall the application itself but there is still a shared folder called "Plex" with description "Plex Media Library".

Can I delete this shared folder? What does this folder contain? Only the database or source files (which I do not believe)?

This file is about 7 GB and the weight of all my audio / video source files is about 2.5 TB.

I do not know what is this 7 GB folder and I would like not to delete source files.

I have been running Plex on my Synology DS918+ for approx. 8 months with NO issues.

Suddenly when I stream my video files (MP$ - 480p) I am receiving the following error- "Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video. Check your Network".

I am receiving this error on ALL of my client devices (smart TV, Fire TV, etc). However, I am able to stream other services with NO issues on the same devices (NetFlix, Amazon, Video on demand).

I have made no recent changes to my wireless network.

I can also stream the same video files on my NAS with my smart TV using the built-in DNLA player with no issues.

Considering the facts above I would think this indicates a problem with the Plex server.

Any help or alternative viewpoints would be appreciated. Thank you.

PMS 1.12.0.4829-6de959918 fails with sqlite error on DS418play with DSM 6.1.5-15254 Update 1

I've got a DS418play with DSM 6.1.5-15254 Update 1. I followed a guide to add Plex's key and manually install PMS 1.12.0.4829-6de959918 manually rather than the older version from the package center. However, I'm getting a SQLite3 error whenever I try to start the service.

Here are the relevant lines from the log (I really wish the log viewer allowed copying):
ERROR - SQLITE3: 0x10, 1, no such table: schema_migrations
ERROR - Database corruption: sqlite3_statement_backend::prepare: no such table: schema_migrations for SQL: select version from schema_migrations order by version
ERROR - Error: Unable to set up server: sqlite3_statement_backend::prepare: no such table: schema_migrations for SQL: select version from schema_migrations order by version (N4soci10soci_errorE)

Hi,

I'm away from home at the moment and trying to watch files that are on my Synology DS414 NAS via plex. I've done this before and its worked fine. However, I've recently reset the software on my NAS so something may have changed since last time I tried to do this.

If I go on a plex app on an android device or the plex.tv site I cant see my server. I've also set up a DDNS service so I can access my router and NAS home pages to configure things while I'm away. I can access my routers home page and change router settings etc, I can access the NAS home page (NAS IP:5000), but if i try and access the plex server via the same method (32400 port) it doesn't work. It just loads the plex webpage with no server available.

I've also tried setting up a VPN using my NAS. I've managed to connect and android device to the VPN and can see the files as if I'm on my home network and play them via VLC. When I open up the plex app, nothing....

Any help please?

I accidently deleted one of my libraries from plex and lost all my played up to info and on deck info. I have all the files backed up onto another NAS nightly. Is it possible to restore a file or group of files for the one library I accidently deleted?
