I'm trying to investigate the root cause of video freezes when playing some 4K videos, but no success yet, so I need your advice/suggestions what can I check, etc. Here you can see, how does freezing looks like:

I'm playing videos directly from Synology DS716+ (RAID1 with two WD6002FFWX-68TZ4N0 disks inside) to my 4K Sony TV 55XE9005 with Android OS. TV is connected to TP-LINK Archer C7 v2 (firmware is the newest-2018-01-17) via WiFI AC standard (TV shows 866 Mbps connection) and NAS is connected via cable to 1 Gbps NIC. Router is hidden right behind the TV. I'm running PLEX server (1.10.0.4523) on NAS and playing videos via PLEX application installed on TV.
Time to time I experience video freezes for 4-5 seconds when playing 4K videos, but not all. It seems that video is freezing only when video bitrate is more than >60 Mbps, but maybe I'm overlooking smth. What is strange, that when video freezes, Plex doesn't say that it's not enough network throughput for streaming videos, what usually happens when it's not enough speed for streaming video file. Also, when playing video file NAS is not transcoding it, because I don't see PLEX transcoding service and CPU load is less than 5%.
I would appreciate any suggestions how can I solve this freezing issue. For troubleshooting purposes I've attached media info and plex media server debug logs.

Running Plex on Synology DS418play NAS server
Hey all. I love my Synology DS418play NAS and I love PLEX, but cannot get them to work together correctly. When I get a video to connect the movie posters and meta data does not pull through.
I CAN run a PLEX server on my iMac pointing to folders on the Synology DS418play (including posters and metadata), but must continue to reconnect to the NAS server and it is a pain. I don't think it is the most effective way to do it as well. Ideally I want to run the PLEX server directly from my Synology DS418play.
Yes I have installed PLEX onto my Synology DS418play. I have also installed the PLEX certificate in the package center on the Synology DS418play.
Anyone else run into this or have any ideas? I suspect it has to do with a setting in the Synology DS418play unit, but I am still new at this.

DS918+ Impact of NVME cache?
Hi,
Quick context : I currently run Plex from a dell t20 (Xeon e3) with perfectly adequate transcoding abilities. I also have a recently got a 918+ Initially as a file server and realized it’s Plex abilities are pretty interesting.
I am now looking at shutting down the t20 most of the time and rely on the 918 even for video.
In the process of reinstalling completely the 918+, I have a few interrogations and could benefit from other users experience :
1 - what is the influence of adding read / write / both NVME drives to the DS918+ for Plex usage?
2 - what if I was to use 3 drives for data and one SSD for applications that will handle the Plex library? Would that I;prove the overall experience or also transcoding?
My guess is that the SSD usage for Plex will only significantly improve the page displays but not playing/transcoding ? Same for the NVNE read cache, with maybe a slight influence of the read cache for transcoding?
Thanks to help me decide on the disk strategy if you have experience zith the above...

Plex Settings Still Alive After Factory Reset & DSM Re-install
So I reset my DS218+ today which wiped the DSM install and re-installed it. But for some reason, once I re-installed Plex Media Server, all my movie libraries and settings are still there. I thought the only way to keep those settings is if you install a new version of PMS on top of an existing one. How is it that they are still there after a wipe of DSM? I saw no "plex" folder on file station after the wipe. Not sure where it could have been stored.

in a nuttshell: which synology NAS choose for plex transcoding at 1080p?
Hi all,
I'm evaluating to buy a Synology nas and I'd like to be sure it will work perfectly with 1080p transcoding too.
I'd love to go for a 2bay option but 4bay cab ne good as well.
Which should I get to avoid troubles when I try to relax in from of TV? if you can give me both samples for 2 and 4 bay will be more than appreciated!

Poster media not downloading
I'm not sure when it changed, but some time ago my Synology PMS stopped being able to download artwork automatically. I already checked permissions and made sure the plex user had full access to read/write all the drives, but still no change. Attached are my logs.

How to add personal Domain SSL Certificate to Plex on Synology ?
I cant access Plex over WAN, I have my Synology to force HTTPS, I have My valid certificate and I have it setup on my Synology, everything works except Plex, I notice that in the settings Server>>Networks It lets me add the path for the certificate but cant seem to do it right, can someone help me on this ? Can someone teach me how to properly do it ? I use Plex for all my media so its important the security when Plex is on my custom Synology where all my personal files are(What can I say Im a security freak). Thanks in advanced.

Synology DS916+ to a DS1817+
Hello,
I recently bought a DS916+ and I'm actually pretty satisfied with it, if not I realized that 4 hard drives is not going to cut it for me (neither adding an external box for additional drives), and since I'm still in the return window, I was thinking of swapping it for a DS1817+.
I'm worried that the performance with the DS1817+ and Plex won't be as good as on the DS916+, based on the tech specs sheet found at the Synology website suggests that the DS1817+ does not come with hardware transcoding capabilities.
Any suggestion?

Plex on 918+ abruptly stopped working
Strange and feeling helpless. Bye bye movie night. Was scanning files in my Movies library to update for a recently added movie (I changed the media file itself in its folder) and the process stalled. Stopped the scan, cleaned bundles, emptied trash, retried Scan Files. Scan stalled again. Stopped & restarted the Plex package on the NAS, no luck. Installed current version of Plex (downloaded from Plex, not the package center) but same result. Package is running. Opening the web UI times out on a white screen instead of Plex. Was working perfectly 15 minutes ago. No idea what got corrupted. I've attached the Logs.zip file. I don't know much about what those lines mean. It was repeating "Thread: Running async task started by thread 0x7f0022e56700" but now it's also repeating "Warning: ex: boost::filesystem::last_write_time: No such file or directory: */volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Plug-ins-c40bba82e/..." which seems ominous. Mayday trumpy81 or someone similarly adept. Thanks very much!

ds418play ram upgrade
Omg so for a few weeks now I have been getting terrible speeds when trying to stream from my syno 418play to my 4k tv. my internet is fast(300mbps) and I don't have really anyone or thing running on my nas or network. I recently noticed that I am only running 2gb of ram on my 418play. Can anyone recommend where I can get a matching pair to boost my system and how many gb of ram cam my system handle if they are matched?

Best Synology NAS
New to the forums, long term Plex user running on windows based machine. I want to purchase a dedicated NAS for Plex along with surveillance station. I want the best possible NAS that will be able to handle 4K etc, money is not an object but I don’t want to go overkill if I don't have to. Needs to be able to handle at least 5 devices accessing at any one time.
Would appreciate your suggestions.

DS418play and hardware decoding support.
Hello,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I seem to be getting conflicting answers probably from outdated posts.
I have a DS418play nas up and running
Plex is running, from the synology binaries taken from plex's website
I have a plex pass.
It's running the latest 1.10.x version.
Now, on the web interface..
In Manage, Settings, Transcoder, I don't get any "Use Hardware Transcoding" or any similar option.
I see "Transcoder Quality", "Transcoder Temporary Directory", "Transcoder default buffer", background transcoding preset x264, and max simultaneous video transcode.
I can see CPU usage blow up to 99% with random buffering depending on the video media being played. I assume that the hardware transcoding option?
So, am I missing an option?
Is hardware transcoding possible at all , right now?

PLEX on brand new Synology DS118 with RealTek RTD1296 CPU
Hi,
Just bought the DS118 and looking for an installer package. Though in previous forum topics, CPUs like the RTD1293 are in progress when it comes to development of installer packages (e.g. @chukpa's reply on different topic).
So, does the same applies to the RTD1296?

Error with Plex Media Server on DS1515+
Hi guys
Alright, so I've got the following issue:
It all started, when suddenly my Plex wasn't responding. So I checked it out and saw, that my NAS ran full of storage. I deleted a few files and have got now 200 GB free again. Even though the service of plex was running, when I went to the IP, it said that my NAS isn't reachable and that it is offline. What I already tried:
- I uninstalled the plex package via package manager, renamed the Plex folder to Plex_old and reinstalled the newest version --> No approvements
- I went to plex.tv and deleted the NAS under Servers, because I thought maybe he's got a bit of a mess there. Now, even when I reinstall the whole thing and go to the local IP-Address, under which the Plex Media Server runs, I get the interface and everything, but it says nothing about my server, like it's not there.
My Config:
- Synology DS1515+ DSM - 6.1.5 - 15254 Update 1
- Plex Version --> I tried the newest 1.12 and the 1.10, which is available via the package manager without any luck.
I'd be glad for any kind of help and/or suggestions

Upgrading from ds215j to 218 play or +
I would like to upgrade my actual NAS (ds215j) to 218play or 218+.
The main reason for this choice is that using plex from my ipad o iphone (sometimes also from my chromecast / Amazon key) get stucked saying "the server is not powerful enough to convert video".
Obviously it there is a solution, I will be glad to ear it. 
What do you suggest? Actually I use the NAS just to store personal file and to use PLEX.

RealTek Based NAS Support Update?
So I know there is a sticky here that says RealTek support is being worked on. However that was in November and now it's a new year so I, and I bet a lot of other people who shelled out cash for these new NAS boxes, want to know what the status is.
It seems strange to me that the sticky states that engineers must benchmark that the RealTek processor can handle PMS when for instance my DS218play can easily play 4K videos through Video Station and handle multiple packages(such as Sonarr, Radarr, Jackett, SABNZBD, Python, Mono) running at the same time easily.
Can we please get some sort of update? Have compilers been obtained and verified at least? Or have you gotten to porting the software and verifying? How far along are you guys?
I am really looking forward to running Plex again ever since moving from a shoddy Seagate Personal Cloud that had Plex. And I am even 95% sure I am going to get Plex Pass so I can make use of your awesome DVR service. But right now things seem bleak because I can't even install Plex on a brand new model NAS.

Synology, iTunes Server, and Plex Media Server
I've been searching and reading on the forums and Google but either I'm too stupid to understand what's been written or my question hasn't been definitively answered (and I'm willing to concede that the former is the more likely scenario).
I've got a Synology DS412+ running DSM 5.1-5004. I've installed the iTunes Server package (1.3-2361) and the Plex Media Server (v0.9.11.4.739-a4e710f).
I created a share called Music and under it created a folder called iTunes. I then copied my entire iTunes folder structure from my PC to the NAS, including all the "iTunes Library*.*" files.
I then went into the Plex Media Server configuration > Channels and checked the "Enable iTunes Channel" checkbox. In the Advanced Settings I entered "/volume1/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.xml" into the "iTunes Library XML Path" field.
Finally, I went to DSM and stopped and restarted the Plex Media Server.
But I still don't see iTunes under Channels.

Help installing PlexPy
Hi,
I've been asking around for help with installing PlexPy. I tried to use docker, but I could not get the settings to save properly on a reboot of NAS. I tried to install via PlexPys Linux instructions but on a reboot I can no longer find the /opt/PlexPy directory.
Would like some step by step help.
