I got a Synology DS718+
It is running Plex Version 1.10.0.4523 from the package center.
When watching movies h.264 1080p on my Samsung TV QE55Q7, it keeps lagging. I use the built in tv plex app.
What settings should I use, to avoid the buffering/lagging, as it is very annoying that the movie stops every minute for few seconds?

Hi, I have Synology DS201J running DSM 5.2 (which is the highest my NAS can go) and need a SPK file for manual install of PLEX Media Server. PLEX website seem to only supply the latest (which wont install) and archives do not seem to have the right version required (0.9.8.18??) Can anyone help.....
I see mixed information on using a Synology DS216+ to record and stream live TV. Most say its not possible, others say with a HDhomerun extend (which does the transcoding) or a new release of DSM coming or both. I don't mind spending the money, (HDextend $173, plex pass $, NAS$$$. HD antenna 30-60) but I'm not clear if it will work? How do I validate before I buy all this stuff.

I've an issue with the Update my library automatically option.
When I add some files into my Movies folder (located on my NAS, where the Plex server is running), it does not update the library, same for TV shows, but for another library (called "Formation") it's working.
When I check the box, I get some error on the log file :

Whenever I install the Plex package on my Synology DS214se, I go to hit "Run" and it gives me this message:
I've tried re-installing, rebooting, manually installing the package, updating the Synology's software, you name it. Not sure where to go from here...

I have problems with my new synogloy nas, when i installed de Plex app from the synology store i click in the URL and he show me a windows to login with my plex acount when i'm logging in it show me that threre is not an available server, but it doesnt show me the initial wizard.
i was reading a lot of comments in this forum about this issue but did not find a solution.

Hi, I have an old Synology 210 which seems to be too old to use Plex... I've looked through the Plex Compatibility list but was hoping for feedback on what's the best (and affordable) single bay NAS which could be used to locally stream videos through NAS? Your suggestions will be very much appreciated

I was sure that the Synology supported Hardware Transcoding, my shield does but I am having issues with that so swapped over to the synology as my PMS but where there should be a tick box option (where there is one on the shield) there is just no option on the Synology.

The other day I attempted to add a set of images to Plex such that I could show with family. Since then, my Plex server is unresponsive and won't start.
It runs on my Synology. The service itself starts. But when I attempt to connect to the local IP address/port, it just times out.
I'm SSH'd into the Synology and having a hard time finding logs to share. Any pointers or help?

I'm looking for the best NAS solution possible for future 4K HDR10 with Dolby or DTS surround sounds. Am I dreaming or this is a possible reality, May 1 2018? Some mentioned QNAP some Synology. Even after I wrote to Sinology, they can't reply with the right answer. I'm looking for all experienced Plex users here.
After I read a few of the topics here I'm still not sure because some wrote they played 4K HDR but with we 1080p 20mbps stream 
. I'm not convinced.
If the answer is yes to my question, how many at the same time?

I've been using Plex server on my PC for many years without issues. Recently I purchased a Synology NAS and installed Plex on it. Everything works fine except subtitles. Even after setting everything up as before, shows that I download never get subtitles added.
After searching online, I found that if I clicked on 'Refresh Metadata', it will download the subtitles I need. However, this is a manual process for most of the time. If I'm lucky it will download for some shows. I'm not sure what else I can do as I can't refresh this from my mobile app or Android TV app. I always have to log into Plex from my browser to do it.
Hi, I've been searching in forums for a while but didn't find any solution that worked for me.
I can not claim my Server anymore. When I press claim, the button is rotating for a while then stops and prompts me to sign in. When I enter my credentials it spins for another ~20secs and then the Error "there was a problem signing in to plex" pops up. Funny thing is, I actually get signed in in the rop right corner. I signed out there and tried it again with the same outcome. My credentials are 100% right because I could sign in on plex.tv with them.
What I have already done:

Hey All - i recently ran into an issue after doing a package update on my synology drive - the problem is that all files are now 'Unavailable' in my plex clients (tried, roku, web, and a friend remote). The exact error i get is the following:

This happens for every single file. My mount settings haven't changed at all in /etc/fstab - but here is the current settings (again, this worked perfectly right up to the package update on my synology):

I am mounting as NFS and i can access / play these videos on other windows machines with no issues. This is without having to enter any credentials and the drive is not windows mounted:

Obviously i have a permissions issue - but i am not a linux guru nor do i understand what change to cause this to break. I REALLY hope someone here can give me some pointers as to where i am going wrong!

Well this is weird . . . I've got
TV (TV Shows)
Movies (Movies)
Music (Music)
Podcasts (Music)
and the latter two music libraries will not update when files are added. I have to manually refresh the library.
Pretty straightforward repro for this problem: if I watch the log (Plex Media Server.log) and open a terminal and create a file in the TV directory:
> cd /volume1/Plex/TV
> touch foo
the server log immediately shows
Library section 2 (TV Shows) will be updated because of a change in /volume1/Plex/TV
and same result for the Movie library. However if I run this test on the music libraries . . . nothing. And of course nothing if I actually add mp3 files to those directories.
Any ideas? This is super-frustrating. I don't see anything else interesting in the logs.

I've been noticing some weirdness with Plex lately on my NAS and I'd appreciate if someone could help me figure out what's going on. I think an event that I just observed is a symptom of the issue, where I scanned for new videos in my TV Shows library, and Plex spiked my CPU to 60-85% for 10m or so, then calmed down to 0.1%.
The weirdness started mostly as matching and metadata not adding to new content quickly enough, I couldn't explain it. I also saw times where videos that should play just don't – then I relaunch Plex Server, and it works! For this issue today, I was only going to scan the TV Shows folder because a video I expected to be added last night wasn't there, and this scan did find it.
Can somebody please take a peek at my logs and see if you can help?
I bought the DiskStation DS918+ a few minutes ago. Now the next step, which NAS hard drive is enough for this baby. Considering my last question about the 4K HDR transcoding or not, which speed is required? Preferably, I want low power, low noise. I wanted Seagate IronWolf but they don't do more than 4 TB versus WD Red up to 10 TB for 5400 RPM. Otherwise, for Seagate IronWolf 12 TB at 7200 RPM will be my ultimate choice but I'm scared of the decibel level it will generate next in the same room has my home theatre.
I will run a Plex Server, 1 Time Machine backup and manage 4-6 web sites for personal uses.
I needs some guidance to finalize my investment.

I have a Synology ds918+. I am trying to setup collections, Plex has scrapped though and detected a number of collections, but not really in the format that I would like. I have seen that you can edit “tags” and then create a new tag for specific collections, but when I edit a move I don’t seem to have the “tags” option. I am currently running version 1.12.2.4929-29f6d1796.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I'm ripping my Star Wars The Clone Wars seasons to my NAS. But the videos lag / buffers when played. This is using the synology / web player as well as the Google Android / Sony TV App. playing other films / formats from my collection seems to cause no problems.
Can someone help?
I've been having a problem trying to hardware transcode (HEVC video) with image subtitles (PGS and VODSUB).
Turning off HW transcoding is a temporary solution, but then the server is limited to 1 stream at a time.
Has anyone else had this problem/found a solution?
3/26 Edit: just to clarify, I accidentally accepted an answer, but I still have this issue and believe it is a problem that can be resolved if someone would look into it (unless there is some reason for HW transcoding to perform terribly with image subtitles).
