I have several thousand photos on my DS213j NAS, all put there via the Synology uploader programme which uses the power of my laptop to create thumbnails of every picture which are then stored on the NAS as well for speedy display when called. I have been using the DS Photo App which allows me to view the photos on my IPad Air and this allows for rapid selection of photos and swiping between them but as a new convert to Plex I would like to display my photos through that instead along with my music and films etc. However, I have found that whilst the thumbnails load quickly in plex, the full screen pictures can take 8 seconds or more to load making selecting and viewing unuseable in comparison to DS Photo.
Whilst I am most concerned about usability of photos on plex for IOS, I experience similar delays in accessing photos using my Apple Mac.
Could I be doing something wrong or is the current version of plex slow with photos?****

DS416 and large file playback through xbox one
ok, So here is my setup.
Model = synology DS416
DSM version= DSM 5.2 5644 update 5
CPU = annapurnalabs ALPINE AL212
clockspeed=1.4 and cores=2
PLEX SERVER version: Version 0.9.15.2
the above is on Ethernet and plugged in to a BT router v4. To view on my non-smart TV I have an XBOX One which is connected via HDMI to the TV. The XBOX is connecting to the network over 5ghz wireless and gets an excellent signal.
So, on to my problem. Smaller video mp4 files (<2 gig) taken from DVD's seem absolutely fine.
I have tried to turn up the bitrate qualitys to over 3000 and this of course makes larger files, now a touch over 3 gig just will not play.
The plex client on the Xbox doesn't really say why.
Clearly I can see the obvious from what I have written..can someone explain the upper limits and whether wiring my xbox would resolve this or whether its a file size/bitrate thing?

Transcoded library but having problems
Hi all,
I recently transcoded my entire movie collection so that I could watch everything on my iPad from Plex which is on my Synology 214play. I thought I had done it correctly, but like an idiot, I just went ahead and did it all without checking one movie first! I used mp4, h.264. Most of the movies are now between 1 and 2 gig, which I would have thought would work ok. Some movies will work perfectly some stutter like mad, and when I look on the NAS, the CPU is at max.
Any idea what I've done wrong?

Subtitles not Downloading
I have the serve running on a DS214Play. I spent september out of town with the device shut down. I can't remember the last time I got a new subtitle, but I'm sure nothing that I uploaded to it after October 3rd got any subtitles downloaded. I see it's happening on linux too.

Plex crash after update

I made the update this morning - Version 0.9.16.0.1754-23623fb - and now Plex crash, impossible to connect :(
I have restart plex but its not change...
What could i do ? Is it possible to update again downdate ?

Plex Media Server could not be found
Hello,
Since today, i can't connect to my plex server installed on my Synology NAS.
"A server could not be found. Download and install Plex Media Server, then sign the server in."
The server is running on my NAS (my nas is accessible from internet), i have stopped Plex and reinstalled the last version of Plex. But i can't access to the server.
When I go to the my devices, i didn't see my server.
Everything worked well Friday and I haven't made changes to Plex (excepted install new version).
The only thing i change is to have installed the new Synology DSM version.
I have try to connect to my plex account but i don't know how to add my server !
Plex Version : PlexMediaServer-0.9.14.6.1620-e0b7243-x86.spk
DSM version : DSM 5.2-5644 Update 3
NAS Model : Synology DS214 Play

No thumbnails in Folder view
Hello,
i am using the Plex with my Synology NAS.
Everything is working correct. I can see my movies with thumbnails on the main screen and everywhere else.
But when i switch the viewing mode to "Folder View" on my android or my windows client, the thumbnails are gone.
I am using nested structure like this:
Movies
- Movie Name
- - Movie File
I can only see the thumbnails when i click on the "movie name" folder, but not in the overview...
Any chance to have the thumbnails in the nested folder structure on the global overview?

how to install update
Hi all - when I launch Plex from my Sinology NAS I have the orange band at the top of the page saying there is an update available. However in the package centre on the nAS it says the Plex app is up to date. I have downloaded the Plex update but don't know how to manually apply it to the NAS ??? Also I have just updated my iPad ap and that is now not reaching my Plex server because it says it needs to be updated ???
Am I missing something obvious here?? Thanks guys,

How can I make Plex permanently ignore the #recycle folders?
On a Synology NAS like I use, if you enable the Recycle Bin for a shared folder, it will create a folder with the name #recycle inside the shared folder.
This folder should be ignored by Plex's scanners. I know about the .plexignore method, however if I enter #recycle in the .plexignore file, Plex will just ignore that entry as it uses # as comment marker,
I have now setup a .plexignore file in my Synology NAS's shared folders with the following content:
#recycle
#recycle*
recycle
recycle*
*recycle/
*recycle/*
I am not sure which of these actually does the trick but it mostly works, as during the initial scan the Recycle Bin's content is indeed ignored. However, seemingly randomly on a rescan or update Plex will start indexing the recycled content again as if it's dismissing the .plexignore file completely.
Does anyone know a way to permanently stop Plex from reading these folders other than disabling the NAS's Recycle Bin functionality?

Cannot connect to server
This started off as not being able to securely connect to server. In my attempt to resolve that issue I ended up removing the server thinking it would be simple to just ad it back on. As it true out that was a very bad idea. Now I cannot connect to my server at all. I have attempted everything in FAQ (including the mighty Q22 but more on that in a bit). I have completely removed the Plex server, Plex user& profile, and reinstalled multiple times in hopes of resolving this issue. Restarting my whole network every step of the way.
Getting back to question 22 of the FAQ It's recommended removing PlexOnlineHome, PlexOnlineMail, PlexOnlineToken & PlexOnlineUsername. However none of those are listed in my xml file. So in another forum someone suggested that adding the known find in if they are messing has helped them resolve their issue. When I try to add them myself nothing is resolved and the xml file just removes my entries. Completely deleting the xml file also does not resolve my problem.
The Ironic part is I was just about to purchase a lifetime pass when I noticed the problem. I still want to purchase the pass but as you might understand I really want to get my plex server running again first.

Plex Ignore Feature Broken in Most Recent Server Version 0.9.16.0
The .plexignore feature (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201375253-Excluding-New-Content-with-plexignore) used to work perfectly for me (my file had one line in it: recycle/), but after the most recent server update it appears to be broken.

Using Lan2 only and Plex Icon is pointing to Lan1 IP only
I'm not sure how I ended up with this, but my Synology 412+ only has NIC2 connected. Everything else works fine. Lan1 is disconnected, configured for dhcp, and since its disconnected it shows an address of 169.154.........
When I launch Plex it tries to go to the Lan1 address even though its disconnected and not in use.
If I manually type in the correct IP of Lan2:32400/web/index.html#, Plex runs just fine, but I have to do this every time.
Can we configure Plex to point to that NIC?

issues while PLEX server update
Hi all,
don't bare with me but NAS/Plex is still something new to me so I might ask some stupid questions?!
I have setup my NAS(Synology) along with PLEX quite a while ago and it was working. Today I just logged in to my NAS and noticed that there is na update to PLEX which I started. Unfortunatelly the (atuomated) installation failed and as a consequence there is no PLEX server running anymore.
I have started to read some threads/info on the internet but still feel I need some guidance :(
So my NAS is a DS412+ (4.3-3810) and the latest version of PLEX I can install in the package center is 0.9.15.2-1663.
I have read some artices where people were pointing to the fact that this version might not be compatible to the NAS version they have. Could somebody please confirm if that's the same for me as well?
If so I have understood that I do have the chance to install PLEX server manually. But while clicking on download section of this page and select Synology a popup appears which is asking me for processors (INTEL, ARM, ARMVZ,...). To be frank I don't have any idea which processor is included on my NAS? Is somebody able to point to the correct spk file I have to choose?
Last but not least within your description you are referring to the fact that at least DSM 5.0 is required. What does that mean? Is it the model? And if mine is 4.3-3810 does that mean I can't install it anyway?

Is there a way to improve the time it takes to load pictures
Having added all my pictures, I find that it takes ages 8 second to load each photograph. The same picture loads virtually instanly, much less thatn a second,using synology file manager

External USB connected to Synology
Hi,
I have a DS2413+, and 4 USB hard drives connected to it. I have a question.
Is there any way of automounting the USB hard drives as stand alone shared folders with a custom name?
For now, they connect and share as usbshare1, usbshare2, ... but first, I suppose that name may change over time if I disconnect them, and second, I would prefer to name the folder with a custom name.
I have searched a lot over, but no answers. Has anyone found a solution?

Since I updated to the latest version of the server, I can't see the plex media server from outside.
A netstat -a shows the port to be open on both network interfaces:
