PMS very slow

Hello,

  • Synology DS414 running DSM 5.2-5644 Update 5
  • PMS version 0.9.16.3

After few ours, the PMS is getting very slow, near to unusable and I need to restart it, in order to get it back to normal.

I found some trace of errors in the logs:

1515+ Brand New Set Up.

Okay, I am new so please go easy on me. I am reading over the FAQ and the board right now, but it seems like with the DMS 6.0 things might have recently changed.

I ordered a 1515+ that is still being shipped to me know so this is more of ask for guidance in first time set up.

I will have 3 4tb drives that I was thinking setting up as 8th with one parity drive.

I would like to mainly use the NAS as a PLEX server and location for media as well as a place to have my laptop back up at night.

I am on a Mac OS X 10.10.5 and currently use PLEX on my laptop with media stored on it locally. I also stream to a ROKU box that is attached to my TV via an Airport Network.

Any advice on set up steps, upgrading DMS, basic pitfalls to watch over, and other amazing cool tips that will make my life easier.

Problem installation Plex

Hi everybody,
i have a nas synology ds716+ and i installed plex server but after because of some error i was delete the folder plex on my synology and now i want to install again but now i have a message from my nap who tell me " the port 32400 is already use " and because of that i can't instal plex.

Cannot start Plex after DSM 6.0 Update

Hi,

I was recently notified of the DSM 6.0 update and went to install. It would not complete as it stated Plex was running. Following the advice on this forum, I stopped the Plex package which allowed the DSM update to proceed. After upgrade I updated all the components in the package manager however I could not start the Plex package.

This is the error message that I get in the log:

I checked the permissions and gave the Plex user full access to everything and still no joy. How do I start Plex now?

Problems playing a particular type of video file.

Each week I grab the latest episode of Zero Punctuation, and I store it on my Synology DS214play running the latest version of Plex.

I grab the episode using the folowing steps:
- Using Google Chrome with Adblock Plus enabled, I navigate to http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation and select the latest episode.
- Click the video to start it playing.
- Pause the video once it starts playing.
- Right-click on the paused video and select "Save Video As"...
- Name the video, save it, and copy it to the shared folder on the NAS.

Video plays fine in local player apps on the computer.

When I go to play the video back from the Plex server using any of the following methods:
- Plex player on iOs via Chromecast to my TV.
- Plex player on Playstation 4 to my TV.
- Plex player on Playstation 3 to my TV.
- DLNA via Playstation 3 to my TV.

I get problems playing back the video, ranging from, the video doesn't play, hourglass spins forever on the screen, only the audio plays but no video, error messages that there was a problem playing the file, error messages that the app disconnected form chromecast, etc.

Plex plays other videos onto the Chromecast just fine.

My local player app on the PC reports the following details about the video file:

DS214play Plex Update 0.9.16 Broke App!

I just updated my plex app on my Synology DS214play from 0.9.15 to 0.9.16 and now my Plex doesn't work at all. When clicking on the app in DSM I get a "page cannot be display" message and my Plex app on iPhone no longer will find my plex server. When looking at the link the DSM app tries to open it definitely isn't the same as when I have the previous version installed. This is the first time ever a Plex Update has completely broken the app. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Transcoding issues since 0.9.16.3 release

Hi,

I recently upgrated my DS216Play to DSM6.0 and also my Plex server to 0.9.16.3.

Now, when I launch a movie on my Chromecast (V2) Plex wil transcode it anyway (process called "New Plex Transcod" starts on my NAS).
If I launch the same movie on my Plex Home Theater app installed on my laptop no transcoding process is needed.

There are two things : Everything is made locally and befaore the update I didn't need any transcoding process to cast a movie on my Chromecast.

Ideas ??

I am a newbie and am trialling Plex server on my Synology NAS

I just wondered how I can import my ratings for all of my music?? I currently use JRiver that stores the ratings in the file tag (flac)

How does Plex store ratings and is it possible to back them up??

Wokring package for DS216play DSM6

Hi.

You guys in the forum created a working installation package for DS216play before that you uploaded here in the forum. This version doesn't work anymore.
Could maybe someone do the same with a newer version of Plex that could work running on DSM6?

Unrestricted Access for every DSM Login!?

Plex Version 2.5.9
Synology DS1815+ with DSM 6.0-7321

I have my Synology DS completly new installed and configured with DSM 6 and Plex. Now i found out, that every Plex Account/User that can login into DSM, can see my Plex App and start it and can configure Plex server settings and many more preferences like an admin. This can't be the meening of Multiuser DSM...
any idea?

Ich habe meine Synology DS komplett neu installiert und konfiguriert mit DSM 6 und Plex. Nun habe ich bemerkt, dass jeder Benutzer, welcher sich im DSM anmelden kann, auch die Plex App sieht und diese starten kann. Er kann im Plex dann praktisch das ganze Plex administrieren.
Hat dieses Problem sonst noch jemand?

Synology DS2413

Hi,
I have Synology DS2413 With expantion unit. The problem is I can't upgrade DSM6.0 because the plex mediaserver do not support this upgrade. Or vice versa. The Upgrade goes to 22% and then i stops.

Can anybody please help me with this problem.?

Can't connect to PMS

I've been unable to connect to Plex Media Server (used to work 'til few months back) ever since I rebooted my Linksys WRT 1900 AC and my Synology DS415+ (DMS 5.2-5644 Update 5) running PMS 0.9.15.6.1714-7be11e1. I tried to stop, uninstall, then upgrade to the latest PMS (for Plex Pass: 0.9.16.2.1827-df572f6) but same issue. In Synology Package Center it says Plex Media Server is running.

Only other things that have happened:
a) my Linksys router ran an update when I rebooted it and seems to have reset itself - perhaps I've set something up wrong there?
b) while in Chrome running the Plex app, I opted to press "x" for the server entry hoping to add it again but now I can't see where to add it.

I am able to connect to my Plex Media Server via my iPhone's Plex app.

So, to recap:
1) I can't find the server in the plex app for chrome anymore (now it says "a server cannot be found")
2) When I launch Plex from my Synology NAS (e.g. http://myserver.synology.me:32400/web) I get "This site can’t be reached".
3) I can connect via my iPhone.

Grateful for any help provided.

Plex overwrites certificate.p12 on startup - unable to specify own SSL server certificate

Dear,

I'm trying to replace the random generated certificate from Plex with my own certificate. I need this done because my Chrome browser returns an error :

_Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from diskstation (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID_

I'm therefore unable to browse to my Plex server. Lowering the security of the browser (exception) is NOT an option.

I found the way to change the certificate by modifying the certificate present in the certificate.p12 like described in the following post:

However it seems that on startup, the Plex server regenerates a new certificate.p12 file.
How can we disable this and enable Plex to always use my own provided certificate?

No Thumbnails when accessing external

Hi their,

i set up the plex server to be accessible external by a dyndns domain. mapped to port 80 with http auth.
locally everything is working as expected. but when i access it external by lets say mobile 4G the video thumbnail are not showing up.

it just shows the default image. no other error messages are shown up.

does someone has an idea about that?

maybe important:
If i access the plex server by the dyndns domain locally (in the LAN) it showing the thumbnails ONLY if im logged in into plex account.
If i access it directly by the Server IP i dont need to login.
If i access external, so by another IP outside the LAN it is not working as described above.

Cant play movies/stuttering

I have a DS2413+ (DSW 5.2-5644 update 5) w/ 4gm ram. It is running 0.9.16.3 on my server / 2.5.9 on web client. Ever since the last 2 updates nothing can play any movies. I get either choppy video or a message saying "server cant play video". I have tried on a windows 7 laptop, Visio TV (Plex V1.0.1) & Amazon Fire TV (Plex 4.23.3.552). I have tried every setting imaginable and nothing will work anymore! I never had problems!! The one thing I did do is sideload an older version of Plex onto the AFTV (Plex 3.3.2.137) and everything plays flawlessly!! It also has direct play and direct stream checked and it still works!! So what gives? Why will an old version run on my AFTV but nothing else? The Vizio used to work great too but now its acting up.

Someone please help! This is truly annoying!!

Moved library to NAS, a lot of movie posters not shown

I copied all my movies to a Synology NAS (DS716+) and installed Plex (0.9.16.3). I then added the libraries for movies, tv and music and directed each to its source folder. Plex started to load the content and metadata. Everything seemed to work just fine. But no.

Plex only loaded a certain amount of posters. The movies are recognized, but not the movie posters. This is also not about the file names or anything, because the same files on my computer were recognized well and the poster was loaded. What is the problem here?

Here an example:

The first screenshot is from my NAS, the second from my computer. As you can see, the movies "Eisenstein in Guanajuato" and "Shok" do not have a posters on the NAS, but on the computer the poster loaded just fine.

I reloaded and optimized the library several times and still no luck.

What else can I do without having to add the posters manually for all the missing items?

Hello,
I don't know, when the problem occurded for the first time. I have 3 players, one is dreamplex, the other is my appltv plex, the third is my ipad. In the past I could select a video from my plex on the ipad and chose the player, for example dreamplex. I can choose this now too, but it won't start. Then I tried it in the web interface of my synology plex, choosed a file and selected the player dreamplex. I got the message : plex There was a problem connecting to this player. All the players work if I use them directly connected to the nas, only the player switch doesn't work. I have installed the newest plex version and synology dsm 6.0. For me it seems, that there is a problem in the plex server, but I don't know where. And in the past (with elder version of plex and synology 5.2) it worked.
