Transcoding in a Raid 6
I have a Synology ds1215+ with raid6.
my question
If the transcoded file is saved in a raid? or normal as basic for the moment.
Synology DS214play not powerful enough
So I've got a really odd question that started happening this morning. It looks as if the Fire TV app for Plex recently updated (as of today) and is causing some issues.
I keep getting the error "This server is not powerful enough to convert this video". Most of my videos are in MKV format and have had no issue playing. Since this morning however, it seems as though converting on the fly is causing issues. I know that the DS214play does not have the capabilities of transcoding 1080p video on the fly from MKV to MP4, which is what I believe it's trying to do, and is causing studder.
The second problem is that I get the same errors when I do the same thing on the PS4. When I use Plex to try to play some MKV files through the Plex application, it studders. However when I play the same video through the DLNA Media Player built into the PS4 it works just fine.
Here are some of the things I have tried, to no avail:
- Downgraded the Plex server to the last known working version
- Reinstalled the Plex application on the Fire TV
- Reinstalled the Plex application on the PS4
- Converted the MKV to MP4 format using Handbrake (this solution works but will be tiresome to convert all former MKV files and reorganizing the library once that has completed)
- Run in the web browser on my local machine where MKV files work (this also worked but is not conducive to long term use)
If anyone has any issues where they can point me in the right direction it would be helpful. I'm not in the market to find another Synology just to get this working correctly, and I feel like the fact that MKV formats worked fine 'til 24 hours ago shouldn't make me have to change the file format for all of my videos.
If there is no way around changing the videos, I'll move away from Plex until the issue gets resolved.
"Plex New Transcoder" process runs at 90%+ CPU usage all the time
I see this "Plex New Transcoder" process running at over 90% CPU usage on my Syno DS1512+, but I'm not even watching a movie and no users are connected! Why is this process running all the time? I do not even use transcoding since I have everything in native Apple format.
DS1512+
PMS : 0.9.12.19.1537-f38ac80
The process keeps running, even when I shutdown PMS in Syno Package Center
No rights on Plex server
Hi!
Maybe I did it the wrong way - but that's why I#m asking- because I'm stuck.
I bought an apple tv4 and installed the plex app.
Created a user.
Then I downloaded plex packet on my synology NAS and installed it. Fine. Plex is up and running
Message: You have no rights on this PLEX Server.
Has it something to do with the PLEX User I created beforehand and who is not known to my synology and therefore has no credits?
How to come around this?
Which user should be registered in Synology? Or- how can I give credits to my normal synology user?
Issue with subtitles (again but different)
Hello,
I notice a new issue with .srt subtitles files.
Plex server detects them correctly but when you try to start playing the video, Plex server encounters an error and does not play the video. Same regarding transcoding operation. However, as soon as you play the video without the subtitle, it works fine.
I have checked and the subtitle files is working with other media/player, i.e. vlc on my computer or my ISP box.
Do you have a clue?
Thx
Plex agent in endless scan loop?
Hello everyone,
I have setup Plex since 4 days now and I have the feeling that the scanner is looping as it download metadata without interruption for 4 days now.
Here is my setup:
Sonarr download TV Shows --> Send them into TV Shows folder
Plex Scan this folder and download external subs using Sub Zero agent + other agents that adds metadata.
However as explained, i'm pretty sure it's looping and It seams that it re-download subs over and over as the modification date is today.
Here is an example:
Do you think it is a normal bahavior ? Should it sync none stop for 4 days like this?
¿DS2415+ is not on Plex Compatibility Guide?
Hi, I'm searching for a good NAS to run Plex for a price close to 1000€. Seems like DS1815+ it's a good bet but on the compatibility guide there is a note "*May struggle with some high bitrate HD media" and I know DS2415+ is the same model with 4 more bays. So... has ds2415+ the same "struggle with high bitrate" problem than ds1815+? or maybe the Compatibility Guide is not up-to-date and either ds1815+ and ds2415+ are full supported without this problem? Is there a better NAS for that price to run Plex?
Thank you very much in advance.
Media Optimizer Not Showing Up
I just updated to 9.14.3 on my Synology DS 713+, and I don't see an option to optimize videos anywhere as described in the press release. Has this feature not been rolled out on NASs yet? It'd be a boon for my NAS to have pre-transcoded videos, as it can chug when doing it on the fly. I'm about to upgrade to a DS415+ which is significantly more powerful, but I'd still like to see this option included. Any ideas?
Automatic Updates for Plex Media Server
I was wondering when we might see auto-updating added to Plex media server on Synology NAS's? It's not terribly difficult to manually check if there is a new version since the web app will notify you of one, but automatic updating is even better. I know this is possible as I have other packages that automatically update themselves (whether it's through the Synology package service, or through a repo like git). As always, thanks for all the hard work!
invalid format
Using DSM 6.0 beta on DS214play. Trying to install plex with an extension .tar file but it says invalid file and it is needed .spk file. what is the solution. ?
The server is not strong enough to convert the video.
Hello,
I Am having an issue with most of my films/series.
I cannot seem to watch them, not on my PC, not on my NVIDIA Android TV and not on my Android device.
Is my NAS the problem or is something else? please fix this.
Greetings,
Jean-Paul
Synology DS716+ could it natively run plex ? and even transcode up to 4K ?
Hi I see the new Synology DS716+ has "Intel’s next-generation processor: the Intel Braswell quad-core processor" ... "14nm Braswell quad-core processor" which means "Real-time video transcoding: able to transcode 4K video on the fly.' - it also has 2GB upgradable to 4 GB ram. Int seems that the ability to transcode is not via a transcoding engine but the processer itself can do it. COUld this be the Plex compatible NAS everyone is waiting for?
DS214+ local play issue
Hi,
I have a Syno DS214+ with the PLEX package installed on it. Everything works fine.
I know this NAS doesn't support the transcod and I don't need it. I would just like to watch movies locally.
The error message is : "This server is not powerful enough to convert video.". I already choosed the "Direct Play" option, but it changed nothing. I know it is a common question, but I found no answers.
The thing is a bit strange. I succeded to read any files I wanted in the first times. But I've just discovered that the half of my library is unreadable.
I think I know what is happening. All my files are not in MP4 and it requires transcoding to watch them, even in local (if I understood well).
So my question is : is there a way ? Anybody who has a tip to change the player, or to add codexs, to put some shortcuts to open it with an external app like VLC, I don't know...
Any help will be greatful,
Thanks
DSM 6.0 beta
Hello to all,
For those who it would pose the question, DSM 6.0 beta does not work with version 0.9.12.13 of plex.
I can't have specific log on problem :(
LG TV can see PMS, but not play files
I am a long time PLEX user with a lifetime PLEX Pass and am struggling to use PLEX on our main TV any more.
Plex Media Server
Synology DiskStation 8-Bay Diskless Network Attached Storage (DS1813+) running PLEX Version 0.9.14.3.
Apple Mac mini MC238LL/A Desktop running PLEX Version 0.9.14.2
All connections use CAT 6 cables.
PLEX Client with Issues
TV: LG Electronics 65LA9650 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV (2013 Model) running PLEX 2.4.36
Issues
I am able to stream anything from all other devices I own (including remotely). The issues are concentrated on the client above, which is a pain because this is the method we want to use 95% of the time. The issues only started ~1 to 2 months ago, so I suspect a new version of PLEX for the TV or server are the root cause.
- Issue 1: No files viewable on TV via Plex DLNA. I have enabled DLNA on both PMSs and the TV can identify them, however, all folders appear empty. The Synology's own DLNA service can be accessed by the TV fine (it is not able to recognize and play some more complex MKV files with multiple audio channels, however, and is woeful compared with PLEX).
- Issue 2: LG TV times out when trying to open any file from both servers. I have allowed the TV IP address to access PMS without authorization – secure connections set to ‘Required’ (doesn’t work on ‘Preferred’ either).
- Issue 3: I am unable to view log files at the moment, because I am hesitant to access Volume 1 on the Synology in case I do something catastrophic to the Synology.
I also have the Mac Mini connected to the TV, which works OK - just a pain to use because of the need for a mouse and keyboard. The AMAZON Fire TV also connected can't be used due to the known issue playing audio on MVK files.
First world problems I know, but all advice gratefully received...
Best, John
Offline Transcoding
Currently I have an old Synology NAS with an ARM CPU, so it doesn't support live transcoding. However, seems like it should be possible to still transcoding things offline (I used to transcode XVID encoded AVI's into DVD on my old 333Mhz IBM machine). Then, Plex could just temporarily keep the transcoded file and play it next time I want to watch. Is something like this doable?
PMS Buffering
I'm hoping I can get some help from a Plex expert. I have a Synology 1815+. I stream HD Shows and movies and have no issues streaming tv shows. My problem is that Some HD movies stream fine and others buffer or the NAS cpu spikes up to high 90% causing the stream to stop. I played Cloudy with a Chance of meatballs 720p one day and it streamed perfect but then I tried another day and it was buffering all the time. 720p don't stream and 1080p do at times. I'm not sure how to get the plex log from a nas so advice with all these things would be a big help.
Trouble setting up remote access
I've been trying to set up remote access and can't seem to make it happy.
On the Settings > Remote Access panel I see the "Your Server is signed in, but is not reachable..." msg. I read the "Learn More" page and tried following the instructions, but haven't had much luck.
My Router is a WD MyNet900 which seems to support UPnP. I do the "set up router" thing in Synology's External Access panel which seems fine. I save the config. Yet Plex still doesn't see it. I dig into the Port Forwarding stuff (which is way above my pay grade) and try setting it up for 32400 (which Plex seems to want) but it still isn't happy.
Any thoughts? I'm a bit lost.
Thanks,
Rob
