Getting Plex to work on Synology DS418play
Hi,
I'm pretty new to Plex and Synology, too, so I'd like to apologize, if I overlooked something. I've installed Plex Media Server 1.9.4.4325-bf24240a65 on my Synology DS418play running DSM 6.1.4-15217, but when I try to open Main Menu / Plex Media Server I get the error: "Safari can't connect to the server. Safari can't open the page "diskstation:32400/web" because Safari can't connect to the server "diskstation"".
Package Center shows Plex Media Server as running. The certificate is installed, Plex firewall is disabled and Set MTU value manually is disabled as well.
Do you have any ideas?

Can't reach Plex with QuickConnect
Hi everyone,
since few days I'm experiencing a problem reaching the Plex Media Server from my PC/Android TV.
I always try to use QuickConnect whenever I can (xxxxx.synology.me) to reach my NAS, and I think it always worked with Plex (enabling the remote access).
But after updating the NAS to version 6, it doesn't seem to work anymore (if I go on http://xxxxx.synology.me:32400/web I get a white page saying that the page can't be reached)
Am I doing something wrong or is it something that I can fix?
I'm currently on 0.9.16.3

"Looking for servers..." Not finding local server(host)
Hello all.
I just installed a "new" DS214se - upgraded to 6.1.1 update 4, installed Plex 1.7.2.3878.
Upon launch and going to :32400/web - I signed in with my existing Plex account.
New disk station was not found.
At this time I screwed up and when under server signed out, my existing Synology DS1815+ from my plex account, which is not affected by the same issue. More later.
For **** & giggles I signed out, created a new plex account, and it just shows "looking for server..." and never finds the server.
Now my existing Plex account dropped the existing Plex server, and I can't seem to re-add it either. Same version Plex, same version DSM.

hibernating
Hi,
PLEX seems to prevent my DS216 II from hibernating , without being called . Hibernating only happens, when i stop the PLEX-Service. Can i do something about it, so flex is only active, when i use it?

Synology Transcoding
Greetings!
I'm trying to wrap my head around something. I have a Synology NAS that has a CPU with built in .264 and .265 decoding. I've read that Plex doesn't take advantage of hardware transcoding, unless the version of PMS that is running has an option to "tick" the check box to allow it (in the Windows PMS for example).
I had to upgrade from a Roku 4 since it's built in Ethernet port only has a 10/100...and my large 50gb MKVs were being transcoded since it wasn't fast enough to direct play. Now that I'm on the Nvidia Shield with a gigabit port, I want to see for sure if the NAS can direct play by leveraging the CPU's hardware decoder.
So, back to the question...does PMS on Synology take advantage of the hardware transcoder?

ChuckPA said something I thought was telling, suggesting that 2GB of RAM was not enough for even basic usage. I had never really seen my ram "Usage" go very high even with 2GB, but I did notice all of the ram that wasn't being used for programs was being used for cache. I just upgraded to 16gb of ram on my 718 (though I'm not sure 16 is really needed) and noted that several things that previously had issues (including transcoding certain things) now work much much better.
My suggestion, get more RAM if you have 2GB and credit to ChuckPA for the reminder.

today I updated plex to the latest Version. After the update it stopped working.
The Plex Media Server Log states: Sep 22, 2017 17:42:05.469 [0x7fdb0a7ff700] ERROR - [Notify] Failed to add watch for /volume1/video/Dokumentationen (13: Permission denied)
I´ve double checked pemissions... everything seems fine.
Do you guys have any idea why it stopped working? Doas someone have the same issue?
I already had a look at this one: http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/288454/plex-1-9-1-does-not-work-on-synology-ds3617xs-1-8-1-did-work-dsm-6-1-3-15152-update-4#latest but this is not the issue everything seems right there.
Update: It is shown as running but there is neither access tu the Webinterface nor to the DLNA service available.

FIXED: Plex media server not working anymore after the latest update on Synology
I finally found THE solution: to add
disableRemoteSecurity="1"
in the preferences.xml file

I have been runing Plex Media Server on my DS215J for more than one year, with reading on Mac computers and a Samsung recorder with Plex for Samsung without any issue, all connected on my intranet.
I updated to the latest VERSION 1.3.4.3285-B46E0EA, and then it became impossible to have the server working nor to get access: I'm stuck on the login screen, and even if I log in, no way to access my files.
I removed that version and came back on the 0.9.16.3.1840-cece46d version: immediately I recovered the expected previous way of working.
So, my conclusion is that the lastest update is NOT working, and should be corrected:
- to find the server on the NAS
- to access without the need of a login
Has someone else encountered the same issue?

Unable to Sync?
Hi, so I am not hosting Plex on my NAS, but I am reading the content from my nas with my Plex, which is running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Before I moved all the content to the Synology DS418, sync was.. well.. spotty.. took a few tries to sync it all up at times, heh... but now.. all the content just .. hourglass, spinning.
Please works flawlessly, except for if I want to sync a movie.
Looking around, but if anyone has an idea, I would appreciate it.

Streaming on web player is low quality
I'm having issues with video streaming quality when using the web browser with chrome. I tried streaming with a mobile device and it results in HD playback, but for some reason chrome will only play at 360p. I've tried to find a solution online and most talk about changing the "local quality", but I can't seem to find this option at all. I'm going into Settings > Web > Quality >Internet Streaming > Video Quality and have set it to maximum but that doesn't change anything at all. Does anyone know what's going on?

LIbrary scan doesn't find movies
I added a library for Movies, choosing the V:/Video directory on my Synology NAS, but the scan doesn't find anything. It runs for just a couple seconds. What am I doing wrong?

Cloned synology NAS servers. Plex can't differentiate them.
Hey,
So my parents live in a different country. I cloned my Synology 1813+ to a new DS416 play. I wanted them to have access to my whole library, but without the lag of going through the slow internet half way across the world. Plex on the apple TV is getting confused as to which server it is connecting to. Is there a way to keep the whole library, meta data and all the hours of work Ive put into creating my library just perfect, and change Plex's ID of the server?. They have different server names, but It is still getting confused.

New Media not appearing in my Library even after refreshing & updating Library
1) I add new Media to my Library and place it into the appropriate folder Movies, Music, Other Videos, etc.
2) I log into the Plex Server (Version 1.9.2.4285) on my Synology NAS and both refresh, and then Update my Library
3) The newly added files do not appear even after the Library completes scanning the folders
What can I do to fix this as this just started happening and is quite frustrating.

Synology DS3615xs vs DS3617xs
Synology just released as new NAS, the DS3617xs. I want to let people know that if they were considering the DS3617xs over the DS3615xs that technically speaking there is only one difference in regards to Plex usage and that is the CPU. I own both units and have completely dismantled them for hardware comparison. Everything inside and out are identical with the exception of the CPU and cooler. Of course the motherboard is updated to handle the FCBGA1667 socket, but other than that they are the same. Yes the DS3617xs can run with 48Gb instead of 32Gb of the DS3615xs, but Plex does not need much memory to do any of its work. I think I max'd out at around 2Gb with a full load from Plex. I have 4Gb installed.
The DS3615xs uses a i3-4130 Haswell CPU and the DS3617xs uses a Xeon® Processor D-1527. Now several months ago I decided to upgrade my DS3615xs with a faster CPU. I found the best CPU to be a Xeon E3-1246L v3 Haswell. I could have shelled out another $400 and got the Xeon E3-1286L v3, but he spec were not that much higher and did not warrant the extra cash.

You will need to upgrade the CPU cooler as well. I used the Noctua NH-D9L. Key here is the socket support (FCLGA1150). Now I could have gone with a i7-4765T, but it lack the higher CPU clock speed, 3Ghz vs 3.9Ghz in turbo mode. Base frequency is about 1.5Ghz in difference. Even the DS3617xs' CPU has a slower base frequency of the DS3615xs by 1.2Ghz
There is about $1,000 difference with both units current availability and you can pickup the Xeon E3-1246L v3 for about $370 on Amazon and the Noctua NH-D9L for $55. Unit runs around 40C at full load with this setup.

Auto Update on Synology
Hi, I'm pretty sure there used to be an Auto Update option under server settings in PMS, but now it seems to have disappeared? Any ideas?
Has the option been removed? If so, anyone know why?

Plex Mediaserver 1.11.0
Upgraded my Synology NAs to newest version a few hours ago. Plex is now inaccessible. It runs but cannot access it. Checked log and it contains lot's of entries like the following:

Anyone get Plex working with DSM6.2b2 + AppleTV 4k?
I can't get my Plex on AppleTV4K play any of my files (DS718+ running latest PMS PlexPass). There's just a constant spinner on every movie I try to play.
Recently got my ATV4K and at the moment it's pretty useless and it annoys me alot. Perhaps it's DSM6.2b2 fault but I am not sure.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone else is having problems aswell.
