Hi!

I moved my server from one NAS to another (both Synology) and now I fear something has gone wrong. Plex does not want to start anymore. In the log I see this:

Hello friends,

I would like to know which of this NAS should I buy to use with Plex Media Server.
I have 300MB down and 300MB up internet conexion (simetrical), and every device at home is conected by ethernet except a Macbook Pro that is conected by wifi.

Nowadays I use PMS with my computer and I haven't got any problems to reproduce any content on my ethernet conected TV or Macbook Pro by wifi (1080p, 720p, mkv, m2ts, avi... etc). There isn't any problem playing all this by conecting an external hard drive by USB to both TV and Mac, so they can read well all those files.

My question: is the Synology DS216j enough for replacing my computer as PMS? will there be any difference if I choose the DS216play? I could also go for a Qnap TS-251 if necessary.

I want to use it for reproducing 1080p, mkv, m2ts, avi... content directly from the NAS to either my Samsung UE46ES7000 Smart TV or my Macbook Pro conected by wifi (at home or at any other place that I can get connected by a nice wifi).

Will I have to use a raspberry pi 3, or any other device for not having the transcoding problems, I wont have any transcoding problems or what will happen if I buy a DS216j?

Sorry for this extend question, but I want to be sure that I buy the correct NAS with the less possible budget.

After the move from one NAS to another, I forgot to move my music library. So I deleted my library and created a new one. But when I point to the folder containing the music files, Plex Media Server crashes. When I go to processes on my Synology, I see that the Plex Media Scanner still runs. So after a night (lots of music), the scanner process has stopped but the library is still empty.

So I removed the library again. Then I did a dump of the DB and I saw that all the music files are still in the dump file. Even after a cleanup and such....

Anyone has an idea?

Of course I can re-install from scratch the plex package but it's not a solution, it's too long to rebuild

When I'm in synology interface I see nothing except that Plex is starting and then failure during packet restauration... means that something wrong was detected but it doesn't help

I found a way to start it with the command line (telnet), but it doesn't help me to understand what is going wrong...

I just run: "sudo ./start-stop-status start"

About 2 weeks ago I installed plex server on my synology for the first time and had it working without any issues. Today I go to use it and all none of my clients can find the server. I checked the package, it was running so I tried rebooting the synology. Still can't find server. So then I tried uninstalling the package and reinstalling it (with a newer version) but all it does when I go to my_synology_ip:32400/web/index.html is say "Looking for servers..." Server and clients are on same subnet. DSM fw is disabled.

I have just signed up for a Plex Pass, so i can use my Amazon Echo with Plex Media Server. I have one issue though, Amazon Echo can't recognize/find my Plex Media Server that is running on my Synology DS415 play. The Plex Server version on the Synology is newest version 1.3.3.3148.

My AppleTv 4 is working fine with the Plex Media Server on my Synology.

Any suggestions?

Every few days the Plex app on my Synology NAS turns itself off. When I try RUN it goes through the motions but no 192.168.x.xxx link appears. So I uninstall and reinstall the Synology app, and everything comes back. But why does it do this in the first place. No other Synology app (including DVBLink) does this.

I just got my 6TB Synology DS211J, And now i want to play media from it on my Philips android smarttv. But I cant get Plex to work. I need the server settings for subtitles, but it says Settings are unavailable..

Im on DSM 6.0

Tried everything on the forum, Except for deleting preferences file, because i cant locate it

After installing the Plex app on my Synology NAS system DS 216+ II, Plex worked for some days on my iMac (Sierra) without any problem. Some times later it did´nt work longer - my NAS got no connection to the Plex server again. The settings for ports and scripts should be incorrect and I have contact the support. So here I am. Sorry, but what can I do now?

Hello, I just put The Revenant in 4k on my NAS. But when i want to play it on the TV using the plex app it wont start. Also im not able to optimize it to any quality because it says: Unable to convert.

I had plex running on my Synology DS416play okay for a couple of days. I reset the entire system, and proceeded to reinstall plex. The movie agents do not seem to work, however the TV matching works fine. If I attempt a manual match it seems to match something, because it then has the option to unmatch, however no artwork or description downloads. I've attempted to uninstall plex, and re-install. Uninstall, then delete any thing that might have been left over, such as plex user account and folders, then re-install. The firewall is not running on this machine. I've tried changing the sites that it downloads the info from (the movie database, imdb, rotten tomatoes). What could be going on? I've attached what I believe is the relevant part of the log.

So today my home experienced an Internet outage when a construction crew hit a line.  Wouldn't of cared so much,  except I learned that PLEX is dependent on Internet access to run.

I have a Synology that run PLEX and all my content is local.

Is there a way to operate PLEX when the Internet fails?  Or should I begin looking at other alternatives?

I use PLEX with my old TV Sony for playing movies. Working fine to last official update from Synology, its 1.3.3. After this update my TV can list movies but most movies show error connect to server, check server settings. A few day ago I see for example "Movie1", today I have this error info. I manually upgrade version to 1.3.4 downloaded today from Plex website, still not working.
Please, show me link to install package for older working version (1.3.2?) or any idea?

I've decided to use my laptop for now and possibly build a HTPC down the line as the server so the NAS I get doesn't need to do any trascoding. That being said I will want to run stuff on the NAS like torrenting, Coach potato, things like that. I'm pretty green when it comes to the hardware stuff.

Does it matter which NAS i choose? I still want it powerful enough to do those other things. Strong, quick read and write speeds.

Anyone have any recommendations? I plan on having it for awhile.

Budget isn't really an issue but I just don't want to over spend if it's pointless.

How can I delete the original movie version after optimization? Plex delete all versions if I delete the original version..

maybe better to create a new topic for my specific issue. It seems that PMS has an issue retrieving server settings.

Hi, I've been searching in forums for a while but didn't find any solution that worked for me.

I can not claim my Server anymore. When I press claim, the button is rotating for a while then stops and prompts me to sign in. When I enter my credentials it spins for another ~20secs and then the Error "there was a problem signing in to plex" pops up. Funny thing is, I actually get signed in in the rop right corner. I signed out there and tried it again with the same outcome. My credentials are 100% right because I could sign in on plex.tv with them.

What I have already done:

• changed password
• checked this Post
• deleted plugin folders: webmanager.bundle and siteconfigurations.bundle

I don't really know about the logs but I got some errors in them:

I am receiving message "server not powerful enough to convert video". The same video files were just fine before the update.

Synology just released as new NAS, the DS3617xs. I want to let people know that if they were considering the DS3617xs over the DS3615xs that technically speaking there is only one difference in regards to Plex usage and that is the CPU. I own both units and have completely dismantled them for hardware comparison. Everything inside and out are identical with the exception of the CPU and cooler. Of course the motherboard is updated to handle the FCBGA1667 socket, but other than that they are the same. Yes the DS3617xs can run with 48Gb instead of 32Gb of the DS3615xs, but Plex does not need much memory to do any of its work. I think I max'd out at around 2Gb with a full load from Plex. I have 4Gb installed.

The DS3615xs uses a i3-4130 Haswell CPU and the DS3617xs uses a Xeon® Processor D-1527. Now several months ago I decided to upgrade my DS3615xs with a faster CPU. I found the best CPU to be a Xeon E3-1246L v3 Haswell. I could have shelled out another $400 and got the Xeon E3-1286L v3, but he spec were not that much higher and did not warrant the extra cash.

You will need to upgrade the CPU cooler as well. I used the Noctua NH-D9L. Key here is the socket support (FCLGA1150). Now I could have gone with a i7-4765T, but it lack the higher CPU clock speed, 3Ghz vs 3.9Ghz in turbo mode. Base frequency is about 1.5Ghz in difference. Even the DS3617xs' CPU has a slower base frequency of the DS3615xs by 1.2Ghz

There is about $1,000 difference with both units current availability and you can pickup the Xeon E3-1246L v3 for about $370 on Amazon and the Noctua NH-D9L for $55. Unit runs around 40C at full load with this setup.
