Matching works, but MetaData not downloading - not sure when it started.

Hello!

I'm running a RS3412XS, Plex version 1.3.4.3285. DSM Version 1.3.4.3285. Jumbo frames are turned off on both of my NICs. Synology Firewall is off, but I am running a FireBox XTM25 that covers my entire network - firewall config hasnt changed in 2 years.

When I rebuilt my whole library 6-8 months ago, my initial load matched most movies and tv shows without a problem. When it failed, I was able to match manually, and the text would populate, and it would go grab posters. This worked for regular movies and some adult content - but I wasn't really worried about adult content because I know the Data 18 bundles aren't supported or as complete.

I've randomly added a little adult content and regular TV Shows over the last few months, the TV Shows seem to match/download/update as normal - and because of my previous "not worried" regarding adult content, I didn't notice that MetaData for regular movies stopped working as well. I noticed this about 2 weeks ago when I started catching up on some archiving and added a ripped movie.

The movie plays fine, but won't automatically match. It matches when I search for it, but won't "save" the match, nor will it download plot/posters etc... It also takes significantly longer to load than any other movie (just the movie detail screen takes 45 seconds to load) - despite being the same size and same codecs as 90% of my other rips. I've also noticed that the server response overall is slower for everything.

Logs are attached. Movie in question is Resident Evil: Retribution. From my limited knowledge in looking at the logs - it keeps saying: [COMMIT] cannot commit - no transaction is active Feb 12, 2017 05:47:18.306

So, I'm guessing Database corruption. However, when I use the function to Download Database - it provides me with an empty 1kb file.
Thoughts? I'm proficient in SQL (not as much SQLLite) - but without a file, I can't follow the repair instructions.

PMS on DS415+ transcoding when it shouldn't

Hi,
I recently added some MKV files from bluray disks to my plex library. I created these files using MakeMKV.

The problem is that I get a lot of pausing and/or timeout errors when playing in Plex players on Sony, Samsung TVs and Apple TV 4. I monitored the CPU and memory usage on the NAS while trying to play these movies and noticed that the CPU is at 98% and memory at 1.78.

It seems that PMS is transcoding when it shouldn't since both, the source media and the dispay client are 1080p. Direct Play and Direct stream are enabled in the players.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi there, complete newbie to Plex here, so bear with me. When I start up PMS, all I get is the Plex Pass advert and 'Looking for Servers' continually spinning on the left hand side. In settings, there is no 'Server' option which I think is the source of my problem, but any threads I've found about this haven't helped me.

Today, I installed PMS from Packages in DSM before realising that wouldn't be latest, so I stopped and uninstalled (a few times). I deleted the Plex user and the Plex folder as per FAQ, and then SSH'd into NAS and followed instructions in FAQ, no Plex folders in /volume1/@appstore, /volume1 or /var/packages.

I reinstalled PMS from a .spk file I got from plex.tv, but I still have this problem. Firewall appears to be set correctly. Logs attached, but I can't see any errors. One thing that may be important, if I try localhost:32400/web or 127.0.0.1:32400/web, I get a connection error from Chrome.

PLEASE remember the volume from plex_library_path on package update

I changed my password as somebody was using my account and thought well change it. I changed it and restarted the package on the Synology but now the server is not in my list anymore when i log in on the local URL directly.

Any assistance would be greatfull

Issues with media stopping and starting

Hi,

We have an intermittant fault with media stopping and starting when watching using the Synology NAS. The NAS is wired and our internal speeds are very good. The files are mostly MKV around 3GB per episode of which I usually have to optimize them to work.

The NAS spec is -

This is being steamed to the Plex app on a 1 year old LG TV Smart TV. I have checked if anything is running when this happens and very little is running and the CPU is barely hitting 17% and RAM is just say over halfway sometimes.
Any ideas?

Plex media server not working anymore after the latest update on Synology

Hello

I have been runing Plex Media Server on my DS215J for more than one year, with reading on Mac computers and a Samsung recorder with Plex for Samsung without any issue, all connected on my intranet.
I updated to the latest VERSION 1.3.4.3285-B46E0EA, and then it became impossible to have the server working nor to get access: I'm stuck on the login screen, and even if I log in, no way to access my files.
I removed that version and came back on the 0.9.16.3.1840-cece46d version: immediately I recovered the expected previous way of working.
So, my conclusion is that the lastest update is NOT working, and should be corrected:

  • to find the server on the NAS
  • to access without the need of a login

Has someone else encountered the same issue?

I've done a lot of testing over the years. I've noticed that the Samsung profiles have not been updated in a long, long time.
After reading a lot on the profiles I have a couple of question I would like to have cleared up.

Keep in mind:

Questions:
1. ash-4.3# pwd /volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Profiles, Is this location for 'Device' or 'DLNA' or both profiles? ( Should I simply update these master files? )

  1. https://www.samsungdforum.com/Tizen/Spec#2015TVSpec provides the full specifications for 2015+ how can I contribute a new updated profile template?

  2. My TV is detected as 'Samsung' not as a Samsung SmartTV. how can this be corrected?

  3. Currently i've been able to play back files Plex deems as "This tv does not support codex 'vp9' or 'h265'. Since I have tested/verified (via USB & Plex direct play) all of the formats as per the Samsung website, what is the best way to correct this for the 'auto' play to work.

No internet browser access

Hi there,

I have a strange new issue... I cannot access my plex server through a web browser anymore :

  • I can connect through my internal IP address (if I'm home...)
  • Works well through iOS Plex app on my iPhones and iPads, and Plex Media Player on OSX...
  • But no remote access through plex website (https://plex.tv/web/) on Safari or another browser
  • And no remote access through external IP (link accessed from my DSM interface)

Anyone have an idea or reason why the web access isn't working ?

Hello,
Last night I had an update for Plex when I logged into my Synology so I kicked it of while doing other things. After the update I tried to "Run" the service and got the dreaded "Failed to start package service" message. Here's what I have tried.

  • Uninstall

  • Reboot

  • Manually install latest version from Plex
  • Adjust permissions on "Plex" folder (plex owner 755 permissions)

Nothing seems to do anything. Where are the logs located? I was going to look at those but I couldn't find any for Plex in /var/log/

Is 'Remote Acess' required to connect to Plex via Sony Bluray Player DNLA

A couple of days ago I installed Plex on my DS215j and then tried my Sony BDP-S7200 bluray player.

I can see the Plex Server on screen using the S7200 but it says it can't connect to the sever.

Not sure what to do next.

I decided to try Plex on my DS215J, but since installing it the NAS does not seem to go into standby anymore.

Are there settings that I have not enabled which is stopping it from going into standby?

Hey Guys!

Plex Version: 1.3.4.3285
DSM: DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 9
NAS: DS 412+

I recently switches ISPs, from Brighthouse/Spectrum to Centurylink Prism Fiber.
I have DDNS setup on my ASUS RT-66U router (running Merlin) and a whole mess of point forwarding setup to access my Synology (which has a fixed local IP).

Anyway, the DDNS seems to be working okay through the router, however, I cant seem to get it setup on the Synology (not sure its necessary though since the router does it).

I tried to access Plex outside my network unsuccessfully, I can get the home screen/page, but of course it says it cannot find the plex server.
So in my debugging I updated Plex was on something like 0.9.X), I've flushed the router DNS, I've tried disabling the synology firewall, I've tried stopping then restarting plex... I'm just not sure.

1 thing I did find that was weird is when I attempt to login and "Claim the Server" the browser console says this: FischStation is unavailable at https://142-197-164-123.22447632450a43b494a27a2b8dd3dd69.plex.direct:11026/ Which is very strange to me because 142.197.164.123 is a Brighthouse IP address not a CenturyLink IP (https://who.is/whois-ip/ip-address/142.197.164.123)

I used to be able to access and see the homepage for plex via my DDNS domain:32400... but now it reports that it cannot find ANY servers at all, I can only see the plex server when I access plex from the local IP 192.168.1.XXX:32400

Curious what other peoples thoughts are... (does it seem weird that plex is attempting to make a request to the wrong external IP address when my router is reporting the RIGHT external IP address?)

DS216j + DSM 6.0 + PMS.
When accessing Plex server from PC outside of my home network I can't play anything (MKV mostly) in Chrome browser, getting "This server is not powerful enough to convert video".

However everything is fine when I'm trying to play the same MKV files using Video Station.

Why?

Hi,

 

I saw some topics on this forum about Link Aggregation.

 

I have several questions.

 

1. Can it be motivated to buy a Netgear GS108TV2 that enables me to do Link Aggregation?

 

2. What will be the difference in performance (besides being faster, my content is a mix of 720p & 1080p)? (I have now a 5 port Netgear gbit switch).

 

3. Will PMS still work? (I saw some users on the forum having some problems with LAG).

Hey,

I just updated Plex to 1.4.1 via manuall install on my Synology 916 and now I'm getting all these errors in the logs and the server isn't starting or showing up on https://app.plex.tv/web/app#

Need guidance with RS217

Considering running a Plex server on Synology RS217, which I believe is a discontinued version of the RS214. The RS214 is on the capability list; however the RS217 is not. Wondering if anyone has any input on this device and it's performance. I only plan on it running on my home's wired network and I don't think there's much need for transcoding. Any input would be helpful on this topic. Thanks!

Problems with stuttering video and/or stopping in the middle

I have been using Plex for some time now and recently (2 months ago or so) switched from a Drobo 5N to the Synology DS916+ with the 5 bay expansion unit. Since I made the switch, I've been having problems with videos stuttering during playback. They'll pause for < 1 second sometimes, other times I simply get the progress bar up on the screen with no pausing of video. The other, most annoying thing, is some time into a show (randomly), a message will come up and say that my connection isn't fast enough to stream the video, even though it will have been working fine so far (sometimes as much as an hour into a movie).

I never had these types of issues with the Drobo, so think it could be something to do with PMS running on the Synology unit.

For clarification, I'm running:
PMS version 1.3.4.3285

CPU cores 4
Total physical memory 8192 MB

My main client that I use is my AppleTV 4 running the latest version of the Plex app there as well. My network connection is good with roughly 90 Mbps.

I have tried optimizing the database, cleaning bundles, and emptying the trash.
