Can't Find My Synology Nas

Hey guys!

Literally I'm trying to solve this issue for over 10 hours! With no luck!

I moved to a new flat. I got new TV, new modem etc. But when I try to connect to Plex Web App can't find my server.

I did uninstall Plex, all Plex folders from File Station, restart modem several times, restart Nas several times. I disabled Firewall. My modem has only Upnp settings and it's on.

After reinstalling Plex Media Server to my Synology, it said "we found a server" however I was not able to save settings. It gave error. Then I reloaded the page and it said the server is abandoned and offered me to sign in to claim ownership. However sign in was not succesfull as well. Interesting, even though I have downloaded and installed the latest version of PMS, the same page said I needed to update PMS.

I was playing with parameters and now it's back to the original situation. Looking for servers on top left, and no Servers settings at all. I'm not techy and I can not address the main reason of this issue. I just want to know what's causing it!

Also this address gives error as well:

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I can access folders and stream movies via Synology's Media Station or Video Station. But I can not see my NAS under "Devices" tab of Plex Web App.

I really appreciate your help, finding out the exact issue would be enough for me. (I suspect my new modem.)

Problem streaming 4K content

Hi all,

First time poster...

I've got a Synology DS415+ upgraded to 8GB RAM. Running 4x6GB WD 6Gbps drives in RAID10 and it resides on a 1Gbps network.

My TV (LG 55EG920V) has the Plex App and XPlay App installed and when streaming 4K content it can get very laggy. I have tried both having the media server and the tv do the transcoding but both end up with laggy video hanging often.

It was a large file of 60GB so i'm not sure if that made a difference as I can seem to play lesser file sizes. Also when I use a fast USB and plug it directly into the TV it plays fine.

It does indicate the network could be the issue but I wouldn't have thought so at 1Gbps which is more than enough bandwidth.

Any ideas?

I'm running latest version of Plex on Synology 2415+ DSM 6.1-15047 and i got multiple videos which doesnt play or convert to the optimized version. Here is the PMS log:

Synology DSM 6.1-15047 on DS415+ and Plex Version 1.5.3.3580

Anyone have any luck upgrading DSM to this version using this version of Plex? I sifted through the posts and didn't see anything above 1.4.x on the Plex side with this version of DSM.

Hello,
I've setup a server on Sinology NAS and invited a friend to watch my movie using plex.tv
When he tries to play my movie he get this error:
"This server is not powerful enough to convert video."
What settings or etc should I change on Plex server in order to allow him to watch my movie?

can not add music library

I have tried 1000 things to try and add a music library to my plex environment.
It was easy to add a photo library and a video library, but when I try to add a music library in the same way I always get "your changes could not be saved".

I cannot find a solution in the forum that works for me

'The server is not powerful enough to convert video'

I have just bought the DS216play and transferred all data onto new WD Red HDD's. The data includes a large number of mp4 video files, varying between SD, 480,720 and 1080p predominantly AAC. When trying to stream/play video files the large majority (of lower resolution files) do not play. Instead I get the message "The server is not powerful enough to convert video'.

Within Plex settings the Player for Local Quality is set to original. My old WD MyCloud continues to play all of the mp4 files without any problem. Is this an issue with the DS216play or with Plex software for this NAS? Any advice/support would be greatly appreciated.

After update to 1.5.3, no files can be played

I update to the new version.

I stop the app and restart the app.

However, most of the files can not be played anymore. It only shows "there was a problem playing this file".

The day before everything seems to be fine.

Please help me as to the issue.

Hello, My DSM has automatically udpated and rendered my PMS un-usable. Do you know if its possible to force the old PlexMediaServer-0.9.16.3 package to install or failing that, possible to download the DSM package. I only really use my synology box as a media server so it's not much use at the moment :(

Who do you have as the Owner of Plex Media Server folder and files within under @appstore?

Mine shown as root. I ask this because recently that dreaded dashboard error appears too little too frequent now. WHen installing couchpotatoserver-custom, it installed as its own user, so with installing sickbeard-custom. Should PMS also installed with Plex user or is it normal to have the owner as root?

PMS on DS216+ll

Somewhere at the time of upgrade to DM 6.1 I attempted to reinstall PMS. The result is a loss of all my video files and unable to run PMS at all. I have tried several attempts at uninstalling and reinstall of PMS but it "fails to run" . Unfortunately, after several weeks of failed attempts at fixing this, I can't
really retrace my steps. I would be happy to simply get PMS running again.
I just tried version 1.5.3.3580-4b377d295-x86.spk to no avail.

Server not performing scheduled backups

I'm in the process of setting up a backup for everything I want on my NAS and I've ended up deciding that all I want from plex is the Preferences.xml file and the scheduled database backups. However when I checked I realised that these scheduled backup haven't performed for months.

As per this thread https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/255179/backup-just-server-setting-and-watched-status#latest I don't believe the database is corrupt

Any help appreciated.

The only other strange behaviour I have noticed is that in the last few days plex web has been failing to load the dashboard on both pcs I have. However this is far more recent than the backups appear to have stopped.

Unable to view media server on TV

Hello all,
I have a Synology DS1815+. I have been running plex media server on this for a bit and love it. I dont know how long it hasnt worked for but i think it might be since an update. I can view it on the weblink, add libraries to it but cant view it. I open media link on my LG tv which is powered by plex and it doesnt find it. If i click the green button on my remote and select it shows it but when clicked on still doesnt do anything.........

Ive been playing with this for short bits of time for weeks but cant figure it out. I have uninstalled-reinstalled. checked TV for updates........I really dont know what to do

When i'm trying to play a MKV or AVI file, i get the above error.

MP4 works.

Any idea?

DS 1515+ Playback problems

I have basically ripped my entire DVD and Blu-ray collection and stored the files (in MKV containers) on my Synology DS 1515+. Everything is hard wired and I play back movies through my Amazon Fire TV on my Samsung JS8500 TV. Frequently I run into playback stuttering and stopping when playing back Blu-ray movies (straight uncompressed rips). I have tried a ton of different settings but some movies just won't play.
Is this normal? Or what settings do I need to change to enable smooth playback?
If it's simply a case of the Synology not being powerful enough to playback a single uncompressed Blu-ray rip on a wired connection ..what hardware, preferably the least expensive can I buy to handle the playback? I'd rather not convert my 1:1 rips.
And would there be an easy way to move all of my Plex server metadata from the Synology to whatever new hardware you suggest?

Best use of SSD - Synology SSD Cache or just use it for the actual Plex folder?

Hi All

I would like to speed up my library view (Art work/Data base) spin-up etc...
Dont expect the SSD to help much with transcodong since thats a CPU intensive task.
But couldnt hurt to place my transcoding directory on the SSD I guess.

After updating to DSM 6 and BTRFS filesystem I feel the Plex is slow, initiating transcoding.
Showing libraries etc (I have tried total re-install and lately a recovery of my backup which improved things a little)

Reading around the forum I can see that some have placed the whole volume 1 with all the applications to a SSD.
That might be a better use of a SSD (HD Slot) than setting up a SSD cash?
Would this limit spin-up of my volumes? (24 drives spinning up on 2 volumes, would like to limit that if possible).

Anyway please share your experiences, especially in regards to getting the most out of a SSD?
Is it even worth it?

PMS will not start

New DS916+, DSM 6.1-15047 Update 2, Brtfs file system
PMS 1.5.3.xx

PMS installs fine, some error messages in log, web interface working, I can see my PMS on my MAC, but NOT the one on the DS916+

Who can review the logs to give me a pointer...

I have re-install 3x now, same issue
